The following SSL hours we offer:
1 Lap Blanket (using a sewing machine/hand sewing )= 1.5 hours of service
1. How to start:
If you are willing to volunteer, please contact highschoolersforfrontliners@gmail.com. For volunteers, we provide specific PDF instructions that explain how to make the item, the quality expected, how to create the student activity log, how to earn SSL hours, and the drop-off/mailing instructions.
2. Making Lap Blanket Instruction: we do not provide fleece or flannel fabric

2) Fleece Blanket : 24 x 24 inch or 36 x 36 inch any pattern or no pattern: you can prepare 24 inch which is 3/4 yard of fleece for making 1 blanket. Sewing instructions are the same as flannel lap blanket: https://youtube.com/watch?v=oJAzu4ZuTiY&feature=share.
3. How to earn your SSL hours: Important
At HSFL, we take SSL hours seriously and want to ensure that our volunteers receive the correct amount for the work they've completed. Our supervisors will review your completed work and award SSL hours based on our established equivalency of hours for the specific project.
While you should keep an activity log to track your work, please don't calculate your own SSL hours. Instead, we'll compare your log to the work you've completed and adjust your SSL hours if necessary. Our goal is to make sure that the process is fair and accurate, and we appreciate your cooperation in this effort.

1. Do I need to sign up? Yes. Please contact us highschoolersforfrontliners@gmail.com to let us know your interest. 2. Is there a limit to how many different projects I make at a time? Yes, HSFL offers 4 separate opportunities, please choose 2 items maximum (For example, volunteers can choose two from hospital masks, writing letters, making heart pillows, making lap blankets). We strongly encourage that volunteers focus on 1 or 2 items to make them professionally. 3. Is this non-profit approved for MCPS SSL hours? Yes. 4. Who are these Lap Blankets for? We are making these lap blankets for veterans and seniors at the DC Med-Star hospital patients. These will be handed out to patients who are sick or struggling from health concerns. 5. What other projects do you offer? We are making and donating Handmade Masks to Doctors Community Hospitals in PG County, HU hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital in DC. Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety and privacy at any time the student is interacting with the nonprofit and its clients. The nonprofit organization will determine the number of SSL hours awarded based on the evidence submitted. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns. This service activity is designed to be completed within the safety of the student’s home.
