The reading department at Forest Oak Middle School (FOMS) is seeking one or two volunteers to help middle schoolers in a reading classroom once a week. I teach middle school reading, which includes phonics, fluency, reading comprehension, and writing. Most of my students have been diagnosed with Dyslexia, an auditory processing disorder, a language processing disorder, or other disabilities that make reading difficult. The volunteer would read a chapter book or picture book for 10 minutes while students listen. Making sure students are participating on the phonics software is another job that the volunteer will handle. I would remain in the classroom and pull students 1-on-1 to help them with their individual reading goals. We need MC student volunteers for 2 to 3 hours once a week (1 or 2 days a week), starting in September. School hours are 8-3 pm. If the Montgomery College student is here during breakfast and lunch hours, you may get free meals.
