BRING YOUR UNWANTED BIKES to donate to children in Togo,West Africa.
The number of individuals who drop off bikes is unlimited.
You may also sign up to assist with parking and collecting data at the drop-off/collection site.
While students may earn SSL hours for the time spent assisting at this event, students may not earn SSL hours for dropping off or donating items (though donations are still greatly appreciated!).
TOGO Kid's Hope to provide bicycles for kids who walk 2 hours to get to school (leaving at dawn & retuning at dark)
Bikes are prioritized to girls and boys who are in danger of being harassed while walking home after dark. Bikes of any size are accepted, and will be repaired as needed. We will ask you to complete a form upon drop off, with a photo of you with the bike you are donating. The organization will send you a picture of your bike with the new recipient as a way to say thank you.
In the West African country Togo, one high school per 7-15 villages is common in rural areas. Most students walk two hours to get to school leaving at dawn and returning after dark. Togo Kid's Hope is a non-profit organization that accepts unwanted bikes, sends them to Togo, repairs them, and gives them to children. They prioritize giving to girls who are in danger while walking home after dark Last year the Gaithersburg/Rockville MD Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi donated 115 bikes to Togo's Kids Hope. This year we are proud to be partnering together at Journey's Crossing and the Montgomery county MD National Pan Hellenic Council to make this even bigger!

Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
