Sports & Beyond MD Foundation – Youth Sports Volunteer
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Sports & Beyond MD Foundation! Our volunteers play an important role in creating a fun, safe, and encouraging environment where children can develop athletic skills, build confidence, and learn valuable life lessons through sports.
As a volunteer, you will work alongside experienced coaches and adult staff members to assist with youth sports clinics, camps, leagues, and community events serving children ages 4–12. No advanced coaching experience is required—we will provide guidance and support throughout each event. We are looking for enthusiastic, dependable individuals who enjoy working with children and are passionate about giving back to the community.
Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers may assist with:
- Setting up and organizing sports equipment before activities begin.
- Welcoming participants and helping families with check-in.
- Leading warm-ups and assisting with age-appropriate drills and games.
- Encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, and positive behavior.
- Mentoring younger participants by offering encouragement and individual support.
- Assisting coaches with skill stations and small group activities.
- Helping maintain a safe and organized playing environment.
- Distributing, collecting, and storing equipment after each session.
- Supporting community outreach events, special clinics, and Foundation programs.

Volunteer Expectations
Volunteers are expected to:
- Arrive on time and remain for their scheduled volunteer shift.
- Demonstrate professionalism, responsibility, and a positive attitude.
- Be respectful, patient, and encouraging toward all participants.
- Follow the directions of Foundation staff and adult coaches.
- Help create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for every child.
- Serve as positive role models both on and off the field.
Important Information
- Volunteers are always supervised by adult Sports & Beyond MD Foundation staff.
- Volunteer opportunities are available during sports clinics, camps, leagues, and special community events throughout the year.
- Comfortable athletic clothing and closed-toe athletic shoes are required.
- Volunteers should be prepared to work outdoors or indoors depending on the event and weather.
- Community service hours will be verified upon successful completion of volunteer responsibilities in accordance with MCPS Student Service Learning (SSL) requirements.
At the Sports & Beyond MD Foundation, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and have fun through sports. Our volunteers help make that mission possible by encouraging, mentoring, and inspiring the next generation of young athletes.
Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours in a public space under direct supervision of the nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
