PLEASE READ THIS SECTION THOROUGHLY BEFORE REGISTERING. We are looking for volunteer help to unload our delivery of Christmas trees the weekend of November 22nd.
We do not have the exact date and time yet that the truck will arrive. We have requested Friday 11/22/24 at 5pm, or Saturday 11/23/24 at 10am, or Sunday 11/24/24 at 2pm as our delivery times. This opportunity will be updated as soon as we know for sure and everyone that has registered will receive email updates. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR EMAIL FREQUENTLY SO YOU SEE THE CORRECT DATE AND TIME WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE. There are no hard feelings for anyone that registers and then has to pull out because the date/time did not work out for you.
As of right now this will happen Friday 11/22/24 at 5pm. If you can't get there right at 5pm come when you can. It will take 3-4 hours to complete depending on how many people we get. Park in our ballroom parking lot. The weather forecast is not great with 43 degree temperatures and a chance of light rain, so dress appropriately. We have to do this rain or shine. Wear something with a hood or bring a hat. We will provide work gloves, shelter as needed and bathrooms in the fire station.
This consists of helping us to unload 750 Christmas trees from the tractor-trailer truck at the Wheaton Rescue Squad station on Arcola Ave across from the Wheaton library. Park in our ballroom parking lot. We will provide work gloves, but wear some old clothing as there is some pine sap from the trees and we don't want to see you mess up any of your good clothes.
We will have signed SSL forms on site for you and also information on volunteer and career opportunities in the Fire/Rescue service.
You can work by yourself or in teams of two for the heavier trees, and we need you to move them from the back of the tractor-trailer to piles in our parking lot where we will designate what tree size goes on which pile. Our members will be there to help you move them to the right spot.
This is actually a lot of fun and goes pretty quickly when we get plenty of help. If you have any questions, you can email me via the volunteer opportunity web site.
Thanks!
Brian McGinness
1st Vice-President
Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad
