A 2.5 hour training is required to begin the process of becoming a Representative Payee Volunteer.
Representative Payee volunteer is matched with a low income person with disabilities who needs help with budgeting, paying routine bills and keeping track of financial matters. Once trained, a volunteer is matched with a client and appointed by the Social Security Administration to handle their financial matters. A volunteer’s basic responsibility is to manage the client’s monthly benefits in their best interest and to keep the client’s financial records in order. Volunteers receive ongoing support and supervision from the program staff.
A volunteer typically spends approximately 6 hours per month working with their clients. Volunteers can make their own schedules. There is flexibility in scheduling volunteering each month (can be in the evenings, weekends, etc.)
