Young Artists Of America At Strathmore

Who We Are

Founded in 2011, Young Artists of America at Strathmore (YAA) is a non-profit educational organization offering world-class music theatre training to young performing artists in a professional and nurturing environment. Our students train and perform fully orchestrated works of music theatre in state-of-the-art venues such as the Music Center at Strathmore, where we are an Affiliate. Each year, we serve a diverse group of 500+ students, grades 3-12 and reach an audience of 10,000+ from the DC Metro Area, with 13+ performances and 1500+ hours of classes and rehearsals.

Our annual program consists of a school-year Performance Program with YAAOrchestra, YAACompany, YAAJunior, and YAAKids; Musical Theatre Training in Voice, Dance, and Acting; Summer Performing Arts Intensives day and overnight camps; robust collaborations with arts organizations and professional artists; Community Outreach Performances; a robust Scholarship Program.

Our human-centered programs are led by professional teaching artists who foster community by modeling YAA’s core values: Excellence, Inclusivity, Respect, Collaboration, and Service. Through the creative process, we give students skills and confidence to “find their voice” on the stage and in life.

What We Do

Middle and high school students who volunteer with YAA spend their hours rehearsing and performing musical theatre works for the community. Performances take place in professional theatres such as the Music Center at Strathmore where we provide at least 100 free low and no-cost tickets, plus local places of worship, senior centers, and community centers.
