Who We Are

Founded in 2011, Young Artists of America at Strathmore (YAA) is a non-profit educational organization offering world-class music theatre training to young performing artists in a professional and nurturing environment. Our students train and perform fully orchestrated works of music theatre in state-of-the-art venues such as the Music Center at Strathmore, where we are an Affiliate. Each year, we serve a diverse group of 500+ students, grades 5 through pre-professional and reach an audience of 5000+ from the DC Metro Area, with 12+ performances and 1500+ hours of classes and rehearsals.

Our annual program consists of a school-year Performance Program with YAAOrchestra, YAACompany, and YAAjunior; Musical Theatre Training in Voice, Dance, and Acting; YAAClassical voice training; Summer Performing Arts Intensives day and overnight camps for musical theatre and instrumental music; robust collaborations with arts organizations and professional artists; plus Community Outreach and Tuition Assistance Programs.

Our human-centered programs are led by professional teaching artists who foster community by modeling YAA’s core values: Excellence, Inclusivity, Respect, Collaboration, and Service. Through the creative process, we give students skills and confidence to “find and refine their voice” on the stage and in life.

What We Do

Middle and high school students who volunteer with YAA spend their hours rehearsing and performing musical theatre works for the community. Performances take place in professional theatres such as the Music Center at Strathmore, as well as at local churches, community centers, convention halls, and athletic stadiums.
