Who We Are

PAL’s mission is to leverage the human-animal bond to comfort the lonely, ease the pain of the sick, and enrich the world of children.  PAL volunteers bring friendly, gentle dogs to visit people in hospitals, long-term care facilities, retirement homes, hospice facilities, mental and behavioral health facilities, correctional facilities, airports, federal offices, homeless shelters, libraries, schools, and universities in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

What We Do

PAL seeks volunteers who believe in the healing power of the human-animal bond and wish to team up with their animal companion(s) to bring joy and comfort to people through in-person visits.  PAL also seeks volunteers interested in amplifying our mission without their animals by contributing their skills and experience in a wide variety of areas, including, communications, marketing, fundraising, legal services, volunteer management, social media, event-planning, dog training, animal behavior and welfare, human health, and human resources.
