Who We Are
KIND's mission is to address the growing and under recognized problem of childhood hunger in Montgomery County, MD. In MCPS there are over 55,000 students that are on the Federal Free And Reduced Meal (FARM) program. This program feeds kids during the school day. KIND's mission is to help feed those kids on the weekends, when FARM is not available.
What We Do
KIND is currently working with 28 different schools within the county to feed over 2500 kids. KIND delivers carefully selected, non-perishable foods to the schools. The schools than bag the foods for the children and discreetly hands the bags to those children, selected by the school, every Friday to take home and have food to eat on the weekend.
Adult volunteers help to deliver the food to the schools every six weeks during the school year.
SSL Students help with the running of our fundraisers.
There are almost 160,000 students in the Montgomery County Public Schools system. More than a third of them (55,139) receive Free And Reduced Meal (FARM) program meals.
