Who We Are

Junior Achievement of Greater Washington is changing the game for our region’s youth with relevant, experiential education for the real world.

Our visionary philosophy and innovative, hands-on approach is shaped by a passionate collective of the nation’s educational thought leaders, business front-runners and Greater Washington civic leaders who come together as role models, partners and volunteer mentors to challenge the status quo.

JA students benefit from financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programs that are proven to help them be 100% ready for real life in the real world.

What We Do

JA Finance Park What does it mean to be a volunteer at JA Finance Park?

A Finance Park is an innovation in experiential education designed to engage middle school students for life and work in the real world.

And that means learning and practicing how to make informed decisions for lifelong success by:

  • Aligning the realities of life – and personal choices – with financial stability
  • Connecting education and career decisions with income expectations
  • Experiencing first-hand what it takes to make it

JA Finance Park is a public/private nonprofit collaboration between our region’s school systems, businesses, educators and volunteer mentors who come together to inspire, guide and teach students how to be financially capable and ready to take on their futures. From goal-setting to saving, budgeting, shopping and bill paying, students experience what it really takes to successfully navigate today’s complex economy and they come face-to-face with how their decisions today can impact their future.

JA Finance Park combines classroom curriculum taught by teachers with a high-impact simulation. This knowledge serves as a foundation in personal finance education and gives young people the skills they need to be successful and support them in their lifelong journey.

Discover the Impact

The total time commitment is 5.25 hours, including a 1-hour training the morning of your scheduled volunteer day.

As a JA Volunteer, you’ll watch students step into the future and catch a glimpse of what’s possible if they take control of their financial futures. Our students need your experience, expertise and commitment to help them be 100% inspired, 100% prepared and 100% employed when the time comes

  • You will use your training knowledge to guide students through different phases of the day, which simulate real-world budgeting decisions, spending research, and bill payment.
  • As you guide students through the digital simulation, you’ll share your own life experiences and help them walk a day in your shoes. You bring the program to life.
  • The experience of making real-life financial decisions in a risk-free environment lays the foundation for how students approach financial responsibilities in the future and navigate success in the dynamic global economy.
