Who We Are
Hope Chinese School, a non-profit organization, is committed to serve the Montgomery County and PG County, as well as NOVA by providing an encouraging and unique environment in learning Chinese language, culture, and heritages. While English is the most widely used language globally, Chinese is the most spoken language in the world. Between these two languages lies an enormous gap that separates western and eastern cultures and forms a daunting barrier for communications and understanding. It is this gap that we seek to help bridge.
What We Do
Hope Chinese School (HCS) is a non-profit organization managed by parent volunteers and motivated teachers. Our school fund comes from student tuition, and student family/friend donation. The school budget is used on campus rent, custodian/janitor fee, teacher's compensation, teaching/student material, and school activities. Today HCS, as it's become known as the largest Chinese School in USA, has 7 permanent locations in Maryland and Virginia, with a community of over 4000 students. It offers classes from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Each school year begins in late August and runs through end of June. Classes meet Saturday or Sunday from 1 pm to 6 pm with a recess break. The school term runs for 36 weeks per calendar year. There is no Chinese instruction during the summer. The objective of HCS is to provide an excellent environment for students to learn Mandarin Chinese Language and to explore Chinese Culture. Our teachers are fun and experienced in Chinese language teaching. They are caring and strive to inspire students to have an appreciation for Chinese culture.
Student volunteers will assist the teachers, basically in classroom, to grade homework, lead class reading, in charge of the self study session, to tutor the students, fetch teaching materials, etc.
