Who We Are

Nourishing Bethesda’s mission is to fight food insecurity in our area by providing nutritious food and community support to our neighbors in need, as well as offering and linking our clients to wraparound resources that will enable them to build healthier and more stable lives.

What We Do

Come be part of our wonderful community of volunteers who are making a real difference in the lives of our neighbors in need. We provide a warm and welcoming environment for volunteers and clients alike. Your impact is immediate and our clients are so grateful for the helping hand. We operate out of the BCC Rescue Squad, 5020 Battery Lane, Bethesda.

In September 2024 we evolved to a Choice Market model. This new model is the gold standard of food pantries--and deeply supports Nourishing Bethesda's commitment to honor our clients with agency and respect. This change will give our clients the ability to choose the food items we offer that best meet the needs of their families in a grocery-store-like experience. There are various new volunteer positions to choose from!

How can you help?

  • Helping at the produce and product displays
  • Restocking the market
  • Set up for food packing and distribution operations
  • Pack produce, shelf stable groceries, and bread/bagels in bags for distribution to clients
  • Greet clients and check them in for appointments; Spanish language skills are helpful but not required
  • Help clients move carts with several bags of food to clients' vehicles
  • Transport food to residents of low income senior apartments in the Bethesda-Chevy Chase area

 We have volunteer shifts on:

  • Thursday afternoons and evenings
  • Friday mornings, afternoons, and evenings

Shifts often fill up early, but openings often become available when volunteers need to cancel, so please check back.

We also offer opportunities to assist with Food Recovery by picking up recovered bread and bagels from bakeries in the county (please contact us via our website to volunteer).
