The Birthing Circle

We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to improving birth outcomes and building community in Maryland, with our headquarters in Frederick. At The Birthing Circle, we believe that knowledge is the key to making more informed birthing choices. We contribute to this effort by holding multiple group meetings each month, offering community building and knowledge sharing through Facebook groups, and providing a catalog of local birth and baby resources. We believe in supporting ALL birthing families and birthing choices, and building integrated care services. We use a trauma informed care model, and are open and affirming. We are always looking to expand our reach to new families, and welcome new volunteers. If you’re passionate about babies and birth, you’ve come to the right place!

We provide community support and education during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and early childhood by offering free or reduced cost doula support and childbirth education classes to low income families, monthly perinatal mental health support meetings, and by doing advocacy work to improve maternal health.

Volunteers can support The Birthing Circle in a number of ways:

Community Events

Volunteers assist with set up and tear down, supporting vendors and presenters, and helping guests and their families. Specific activities could include setting up tables, chairs, and tents; selling raffle tickets; organizing donations; and providing directions.

Donation Support

Volunteers help solicit product or monetary donations; organize donations; and assist with distribution efforts at community events.

Government Outreach

Through letter writing, phone banking, and legislative research, volunteers support our efforts to encourage state and local governments to write and back legislation that uplifts families and birthing people.
