Turn creativity into healing and learning! Volunteers create original coloring pages that blend cheerful art with a simple STEM learning element. We compile them into themed educational booklets and deliver them — or mail them digitally/print — to kids receiving care.

We award hours based on the depth of the page, so effort is recognized fairly:

Who it helps: Hospital patients, veterans, first responders, and assisted-living residents served by Arts-n-STEM4Hearts.

Brighten someone's day with a handmade card! Volunteers design and create handwritten cards that we deliver to people who need a little encouragement — patients, seniors, veterans, and first responders. Every card you make goes directly to someone in our community. Make 15 cards to earn 1 SSL hour. You're welcome to make as many sets as you'd like.

What materials or supplies do I need? You can use any supplies you have at home! Cardstock, printer paper, crayons, pens, paints, markers, or design digitally and print — whatever you've got. Feel free to be creative!

Do the cards have to be a specific size? Typically we receive cards about 5 x 7 inches, folded in half. Please put all cards in one envelope or bag, and group/label them together by the type of card (for example, "Get Well" or "Thank You").

How should I sign the cards? Do not give any personal information in the cards — this is for your safety. You can keep it anonymous, or write: "[Your first name], Arts-n-STEM4Hearts Foundation Volunteer."

Can you help with what to write inside? Of course! Here are a few starters — and feel free to research other appropriate card-message ideas too.

Get well cards:

"You are amazing, and someone is thinking of you today!"

"Sending you a big smile and lots of cheer. You brighten the world!"

"Wishing you a wonderful day filled with little joys."

"You matter, and you're awesome just as you are!"

Thank you cards for first responders or military:

"Thank you for your sacrifices and hard work! You are our true hero! Be strong and have courage!"

Count your completed cards (15 cards = 1 hour), label your bundle, and email us at support@arts-n-stem4hearts.org to coordinate the card drop-off. Have your SSL form ready for verification, and include your name and the number of cards completed.

We are hosting a Juneteenth celebration.
Here are Logistics:
1) Before & After Event:
- Preparation: Volunteers can help set up and tear down event spaces, arrange tables and chairs, and ensure that the event runs smoothly.
- Cleanup: After the celebration, volunteers can help with cleanup efforts to ensure the venue is in good condition.
2) Assistance During the Event:
- Volunteers can serve as greeters, provide information to attendees, manage lines, assist with parking, and help ensure that guests are comfortable and enjoying themselves.
- We are making buttons and jewelry for Maple Community Association to sell for donations. Discover the significance of jewelry making.
3) Security and Safety:
- Depending on the size and nature of the event, volunteers may also assist with security and ensuring the safety of attendees.
4) Documenting the Event:
- Volunteers with photography or videography skills can help document the celebration for future reference or promotional purposes.

Our mission at Maple Community Association is to promote family sustainability, health, and wellness through community resources and mentorship programming to support the underserved youth and elderly populations within our community. Our focus for this event is to bridge the gap between the youth and elderly within our community.

Vines and bushes are killing our native trees and plants. Volunteers will use clippers, saws and other hand tools to remove the invasive plants and free the trees. Participants have told us that they can hear the trees thanking them. It's an opportunity to be outside and make a difference for the environment. The activity is open to everyone. Training is on site.

TLC's exciting summer small therapeutic group programs are in search of fun, creative, and energetic volunteers. You will help our participants have a summer of fun in a variety of ways. There are exciting weekly themes, arts and crafts, yoga, music and drama and outdoor water activities on any given week. You'll engage with young children regularly and assist them in building social skills, physical strength, and improving their communication. Fun and learning are all in a day's play. Come be a part of your community and have a fantastic time this summer. We welcome volunteers who are age 16 and over. Camps run for 7 weeks. Volunteers must volunteer for a minimum of 2 full weeks (Monday-Friday), mornings, afternoons, or all day. SSL hours available. Wonderful learning opportunity for anyone interested in working with children, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, Counseling or Special Education.

Bring a dose of comfort and fun to children who are hospitalized due to critical or chronic illness. Your family will make no-sew blankets, handmade board books, and activity worksheets to donate to Children’s National Hospital. Hospital stays can be stressful and overwhelming for children. By creating comfort items and fun activities, your work at this project helps take a child’s mind away from the pain and stress of staying in a hospital in order to make for a better recovery.

Description: At our acclaimed Outdoor Food Distribution located in North Bethesda! Every Saturday So What Else provides free food to over 1,500 people in the parking lot in front of our warehouse with the help of our incredible volunteer team.

Volunteers will help with the following tasks: setting up tables, setting up tents, preparing produce, sorting produce, helping with line control, helping to direct traffic, and more. Volunteers should plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for a quick orientation. Volunteers should be able to stand for long periods, lift large boxes, and do a considerable amount of movement. Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes and clothing they can both move around in and get dirty (NO CROCS ALLOWED). This event is entirely outdoors so please dress accordingly and bring both water and a snack to your shift. This is a great opportunity for SSL hours, and children above 10 can participate as long as their parent/guardian accompanies anyone under 16.

AGE RESTRICTION: This is a great opportunity for children aged 10 and above to participate. A parent or guardian must accompany children aged 10-15, and if they arrive without one, their parent or guardian will be contacted. Volunteers aged 16 and above can participate independently without the presence of a parent or guardian.

5:30 am to 7:00 am: Volunteers will help prepare food boxes to load into cars for our drive-thru distribution and assist with traffic control. (Double Hours are available for individuals participating in the Maryland Community Service Program when volunteering for the Traffic Volunteer position.) (THE DOUBLE IS NOT FOR SSL)

7:00 am to 11:00 am: Volunteers will help load food boxes into cars, assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

10:00 am to 1:00 pm: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes,  assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

12:00 pm to 3 PM: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes and assist with clean-up after the distribution has ended.

We encourage you to sign up for any shift, even if you can't stay for the entire time. Simply inform the site lead upon arrival so our team can accommodate your schedule.

*To reach our warehouse, type "4924 Wyaconda Rd, North Bethesda, MD" into your GPS. This will take you directly to the entrance of the parking lot. After you pull into the lot, please look for the yellow parking spots immediately to your right. You can park in any of the yellow parking spots in the lot. Parking is not permitted in front of Dogtopia and against the fence. To find our warehouse entrance, look for signs for "Dogtopia" and then keep walking; our warehouse is to the left of Dogtopia, directly around the corner. When you arrive please walk to the outdoor tables and ask for a staff person, then let them know you're there to volunteer.

We're looking for dedicated volunteers to help out around our Montgomery County Warehouse, which takes in thousand of pounds of donated food, clothing, toys, household goods, diapers and more each day. Volunteers will help with the following projects: organizing and displaying donations, helping to take inventory, cleaning and organizing our space, making grocery bags for home deliveries, helping to load and unload delivery vehicles and more! Age requirements: We accept volunteers aged 10 and older. Physical ability: While some of these tasks are physically strenuous, we have plenty of opportunities for folks that have physical limitations or other restrictions, and our warehouse is wheelchair accessible. How to prepare: Volunteers should arrive wearing closed-toed shoes and clothing they can move around in and get dirty. Please note that the heating in our warehouse is currently out of service, so please dress warmly, wearing layers and coats for your shift. Join us for a mix of learning and working on Reflection Park's forest hiking trail. We will learn about invasive yet edible species found at Reflection Park such as wineberry and garlic mustard. Then we’ll get to work pruning back vegetation that is overgrowing the trail and removing invasive species. We’ll also enjoy a break at the memorial picnic table by the stream with snacks and any wineberries that we’ve foraged.

Please wear long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy shoes. Apply insect repellent and sunscreen as needed, and bring a refillable water bottle. If you have a favorite pair of gloves, pruners, or shears, please bring them, but we'll have some to lend as well.

Reflection Park is registered with the Montgomery County Volunteer Center, allowing us to approve Student Service Learning (SSL) hours. Encourage your teens to take part in this opportunity to learn and serve! Students under 18 are welcome with a parent or guardian.

As a part of the County-wide Heritage Days the Germantown Historical Society will be offering guided "Walking Tours" around the historic railroad town. You will be given instruction, a model tour, a map and cue cards. This is a great opportunity to polish poise and speaking skills while learning local history.

Join us the morning of July 4th for Takoma Park 4th of July parade.

Volunteers will pass out flyers and programs along the parade route, set up the hospitality area and information booths, collect signage at the parade’s end, offer t-shirts for sale at the information booth, help collect feedback from event participants in the form of surveys, help break down the staging area, and assist with other aspects of the parade as needed.

Winter Growth is an Adult Daycare, as well as an Assisted Living. Our daycare runs Monday-Friday from 10 am-3 pm. We include stimulating activities that our clients and residents can enjoy.  Our services are designed to meet the needs of older and disabled adults; many who have a form of dementia.

Birthday Cakes 4 Free Maryland (BC4F) is a nonprofit organization that collects and delivers birthday cakes to financially and socially disadvantaged children and seniors. We are an entirely student run organization!

Anyone can become a volunteer! There is no minimum age requirement. This is a great way to start earning SSL hours in middle school. 

Students bake cakes in their homes. Cakes must meet the container guidelines which are outlined on www.bc4f.org under Volunteer/FAQ. The decoration/flavor/design of your cake(s) is up to you but we would prefer if you could write “Happy Birthday!” on your cake(s). You can make a cake from a cake mix or your favorite recipe. Round, square or rectangle cakes are all okay as long as they are individually and securely boxed, with lids taped for transport. Round cakes must have multiple layers. Single layer 9" round cakes will not earn SSL hours. We also accept cupcakes. Twenty-four cupcakes are equivalent to one cake. Cake requirements are posted on our website.  We DO NOT accept pies or alternative baked goods. ALL decorations MUST be edible. https://www.bc4f.org/faq

How to Sign-Up to Bake Cakes

You must SIGN-UP for our Newsletter in order to receive the Google Form to sign-up to bake cakes. To subscribe, go to https://www.bc4f.org/newsletter. DO NOT USE an MCPS email address as all external emails are blocked. Once a month, you will receive information about delivery dates, delivery address, and delivery times. Currently, we accept cake donations on one Sunday a month. Our current delivery location is in Rockville near Farmland Elementary School. The Google Form is included in the monthly Newsletter so that you can sign-up with the number of cakes you would like to donate. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF CAKES DONATED IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE MORE VOLUNTEERS. The SSL form is provided at the time/date of cake delivery as long as the cake(s) meet donation requirements. SSL hours are awarded as follows:

We are seeking passionate people of all ages to help with being an activity assistant, and help us spread good vibes. We will be doing an activity where people can make cards for Point of Pride.

The Interfaith Works Homeless Services Department provides weekly outreach to individuals living in encampments throughout Prince George’s County. Each Thursday, social workers, peer support specialists, and other Interfaith Works staff visit designated sites to connect with residents and assess their needs on the path to housing. Donations may be dropped off at the Administrative Office. For more information, contact the Faith & Community Partnership team at FaithCommunityPartnerships@iworksmc.org or 301‑762‑8682 ext. 252.

Join our online KindSoup For Students!

Want a delicious way to have some fun, improve your kitchen skills, learn a new recipe, make some delicious and nutritious food for your family and for others in the community AND earn SSL Hours?? On the first and third Sundays of every month, we will make a large pot of soup together!

This time around we will cook up Ezogelin Soup led by an experienced KindSoup Chef via zoom. Join us from the comfort of your kitchen on Sunday, July 19th from 5pm-6pm.

Students can earn 1 Student Service Learning Hour for every 2 quarts of frozen soup delivered to others. There is a maximum of 10 quarts that can qualify for any given day (5 SSL hours). Most recipes render 6 quarts of soup, 3 SSL hours.

The Link Generations Teen Advisory Board Leadership Conference is Monday, June 22, 9am – 12 noon. The theme of this second annual event is Milestones Across Generations.

The purpose of the conference is to give teens the opportunity to learn about leadership skills and how to facilitate intergenerational programs. The second part of the conference will invite older adults to join the teens for intergenerational conversations, to connect with youth, and to share their expertise and words of wisdom. Snacks and SSL forms provided!

We're so excited to reconnect with many senior centers open for in-person performance now.  YAMS is recruiting volunteers to perform in senior centers around Rockville, Potomac, Silver Spring, and Northern Virginia, etc. If you are interested in sharing your music with seniors, this will be a super exciting experience for you to bring the music and joy to them and also build up your own performance skill.  1-3hr SSL will be issued for each performance at this special period.  Performers will also have chance to get YAMS customized sticker, pin, and t-shirt.

Life is a really, really, really big adventure as Pete the Cat and the Biddle family rock out in a fast-paced, globe-trotting musical based on the smash hit book series. When Jimmy Biddle is anxious about finishing second grade, Pete takes him to Paris in his VW bus and Jimmy connects with his inner artist.
Pete the Cat is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Corp.

All ushers must be 16 years of age in order to volunteer usher. NO EXCEPTIONS. Once you have registered for a date and time, you will receive a confirmation email from the MCVC website as well as from Imagination Stage. All volunteers will get credit for the hours worked, this includes arrival time to dismissal. If you are late arriving, you will receive credit for the time you arrived. You must sign in with the front desk upon arrival and sign out upon dismissal.  Your point of contact will be the Lead House Manager on duty or the Guest Experience Coordinator. These individuals will dismiss you. DO NOT LEAVE PRIOR TO DISMISSAL. If you need to leave early, inform the House Manager.

Make a difference—and make someone's day! Volunteers ages 16 and older are needed for the Isadore and Bertha Gudelsky Exceptional Swim Program, a free aquatic program serving children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities since 1972.

Under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist certified in aquatic therapy, volunteers help create a fun, supportive environment that provides therapeutic recreation and builds confidence in the water.

No experience is necessary—orientation and training are provided. Join us on most Saturday mornings during the school year and experience the joy of helping others while making lasting connections.

We have multiple clients who enjoy arts and crafts. Please come in and assist our staff and clients with arts and crafts. Arts/crafts include drawing, painting, gluing, and even sewing/knitting. If you enjoy arts/crafts, come share your artistic talents as well. 

Winter Growth is an Adult Daycare, as well as an Assisted Living. Our daycare runs Monday-Friday from 10 am-3 pm. We include stimulating activities that our clients and residents can enjoy. Our services are designed to meet the needs of older and disabled adults, many of whom have a form of dementia.

Walking a dog is an invaluable contribution to our rescue and makes a HUGE difference for both our team and, most importantly, the dogs. Regular walks provide them with much-needed exercise, mental stimulation, and one-on-one human interaction, all of which help keep them happy, healthy, and engaged. Even a simple sniff walk can mean the world to them!

We would be happy to have you volunteer at the Interfaith Works Clothing Center and Food Pantry.  The Interfaith Works (IW) Clothing Center and Food Pantry distributes clothing, household goods, and food free of charge to clients so they can pay for rent, bills, and other expenses.  Thousands of individuals, businesses, schools, camps, service organizations, and congregations donate time and goods, which make our program possible.  We are proud to provide the link between people in our community who have things they no longer need or want with the people in the community who are in need of the same items.

Volunteer tasks in the Clothing Center include receiving donations as people drop them off, sorting them by type of donation, hanging clothes and restocking sections in the center, and helping to keep the center clean and tidy.  Volunteer tasks in the Food Pantry include restocking the store, helping answer questions that our families have, checking expiration dates on items, and helping keep track of inventory. 

All new volunteers are required to attend a brief orientation session.  Orientation is offered Wednesdays 2:30pm - 4:30PM and Saturdays 8:30 am - 10:30am. You can sign up for orientation here.

Volunteer shifts are available at the Clothing Center and Food Hub Tuesdays-Fridays 8:00am-4:00pm, and Saturdays 8:00am-2:00pm.  When you arrive to volunteer you will be assigned to the Clothing Center or Food Hub as needed.  You can sign up for volunteer shifts here.

We require that volunteers be at least 14 years old.  All volunteers under 18 years of age must have a parent signature to start their hours.  A parent’s signature can be provided on our online form or in person.

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue has an adoption event on Sunday June 21st at the Falls Church PetSmart.

Come spend the afternoon with a Lucky Dog! We need dog handlers to hold a dog's leash during our adoption event and talk up the dog to potential adopters during the event. We also need drivers to drive Lucky Dogs to and from our adoption event. Handler check-in is at 11:15 am (dog check in starts at 11:30 am). You should plan to stay until 3:30 pm.

The final day to sign up for any event is the Friday before that specific event.

Volunteers are invited to knit, sew or crochet at home to make blankets as gifts for hospitalized children. Volunteers are also welcome to come pick up supplies, stay and make blankets in a group setting, and/or drop off your completed blanket on days when we are meeting in person. Meetings are held in the lower level of the University of Maryland extension office, Montgomery County Agricultural History Farm Park, 18410 Muncaster Road, Derwood.

Help us with our awesome Summer Concert Series!

Every Thursday in the summer, we host an outstanding music concert in our outdoor covered Bumper Car Pavilion. We need help setting up the seating, being a presence at the information table, and putting away the seating after each concert. Concerts run 7:30pm to 8:30pm and the full time commitment for volunteering is from 6:30pm to 9pm. SSL hours are available. Opportunity suitable for ages 16 through adult.

Come help us celebrate the 4th of July in Takoma Park!

Small Things Matter will be participating in Takoma Park's Annual 4th of July Parade again this July.  It is a big and wonderful event with lots of different groups marching.  We are looking for energetic teen =and= adult volunteers who can help us give out fruit to the crowds as we walk throughout Takoma Park.  We are trying to raise awareness about our Kokua Foods Program which provides 7000+ food insecure individuals with access to fresh fruits and vegetables as well as culturally important foods such as masa, rice, and beans.

Volunteers will earn 4 hours of community service hours.  

Duties include:

Volunteers will be provided with a free tee, hat, and water bottle.  Please DO NOT bring a backpack.

Volunteers will create physical cheerful penpal letters to brighten the day of hospitalized children, seniors, and students. These letters will be distributed to hospitals, senior centers, and youth programs to help brighten someone’s day and reduce feelings of isolation. Each letter is 1 SSL hour. Please include a separate cover letter including your name, email address, school name, and number of cards submitted.

Artwork Guidelines:

Artwork can be created using: Colored pencils, markers, watercolor, crayons, etc. All drawings must be fully colored.

Physical artworks should be created on cardstock, watercolor paper, or letter paper (cardstock or watercolor paper preferred). Fold the paper in half and only draw on one side of the paper. The other side will be used to write the letter. You can draw anything appropriate and encouraging. Please avoid violent and scary themes. Some good drawing ideas include nature landscapes, animals, flowers, sunsets, etc. 

Letter Guidelines: Write a letter (6-10 sentences) about: something you did recently, a hobby you enjoy, a favorite place or season, something that made you smile, etc. The letter must fill up both sides of the inside of the card. Please do not mention illness, politics, hospitals or write phrases like “get well soon.” Instead, focus on sharing something cheerful about your life. Each completed card counts as 1 SSL hour. Please start with a friendly greeting such as: Hi there! Hello! Please only include your first name at the end of the letter (Ex. Love, Alex). Letters should be handwritten so they feel more personal and genuine to the recipient.

Please do not include any personal information such as your full name, email address, or home address in your notes. Also, please do not include any real-life pictures or images of yourself. 

Examples: 

Submissions must meet basic quality standards. SSL hours will not be awarded if they: Are not fully colored, include AI-generated artwork, appear very low effort (quick scribbles, unfinished drawings), contain inappropriate or negative content, contain unoriginal/copied content (including templates), etc. Please create artwork that you would feel proud to give to a friend or display on your wall. Our goal is to share high-quality, cheerful artwork and messages that can truly brighten someone’s day.

Description: At our acclaimed Outdoor Food Distribution located in North Bethesda! Every Saturday So What Else provides free food to over 1,500 people in the parking lot in front of our warehouse with the help of our incredible volunteer team.

Volunteers will help with the following tasks: setting up tables, setting up tents, preparing produce, sorting produce, helping with line control, helping to direct traffic, and more. Volunteers should plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for a quick orientation. Volunteers should be able to stand for long periods, lift large boxes, and do a considerable amount of movement. Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes and clothing they can both move around in and get dirty (NO CROCS ALLOWED). This event is entirely outdoors so please dress accordingly and bring both water and a snack to your shift. This is a great opportunity for SSL hours, and children above 10 can participate as long as their parent/guardian accompanies anyone under 16.

AGE RESTRICTION: This is a great opportunity for children aged 10 and above to participate. A parent or guardian must accompany children aged 10-15, and if they arrive without one, their parent or guardian will be contacted. Volunteers aged 16 and above can participate independently without the presence of a parent or guardian.

5:30 am to 7:00 am: Volunteers will help prepare food boxes to load into cars for our drive-thru distribution and assist with traffic control. (Double Hours are available for individuals participating in the Maryland Community Service Program when volunteering for the Traffic Volunteer position.) (THE DOUBLE IS NOT FOR SSL)

7:00 am to 11:00 am: Volunteers will help load food boxes into cars, assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

10:00 am to 1:00 pm: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes,  assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

12:00 pm to 3 PM: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes and assist with clean-up after the distribution has ended.

We encourage you to sign up for any shift, even if you can't stay for the entire time. Simply inform the site lead upon arrival so our team can accommodate your schedule.

To find our warehouse entrance, look for signs for "Dogtopia" and then keep walking; our warehouse is to the left of Dogtopia, directly around the corner. When you arrive please walk to the outdoor tables and ask for a staff person, then let them know you're there to volunteer.

We're looking for dedicated volunteers to help out around our Montgomery County Warehouse, which takes in thousand of pounds of donated food, clothing, toys, household goods, diapers and more each day. Volunteers will help with the following projects: organizing and displaying donations, helping to take inventory, cleaning and organizing our space, making grocery bags for home deliveries, helping to load and unload delivery vehicles and more! Age requirements: We accept volunteers aged 10 and older. Physical ability: While some of these tasks are physically strenuous, we have plenty of opportunities for folks that have physical limitations or other restrictions, and our warehouse is wheelchair accessible. Impact

Prathertown is a neighborhood in Gaithersburg originally founded in 1883 by emancipated people. It has a long and deep rooted history that is evident today in Prathertown's many artifacts and historical homes. By volunteering, you will be contributing to the health of Prathertown’s environment and reducing litter. 

By collecting and removing litter from Prathertown, the animals benefit from a cleaner, safer habitat that helps protect them from pollution, injury, and contaminated food sources.

Looking for volunteers to work with children ages 5-12 years old in an after school child care setting. Volunteers will assist in distributing boxes of food, including fruit, vegetables and canned goods, to low-income senior citizens at AHC's Charter House, an affordable housing apartment building located in Silver Spring. Volunteers will bring food inside building to 2nd floor lobby using carts & elevators. Residents will pick up food boxes.

Volunteers should be friendly and reliable, able to work both independently and in a small group. Food boxes weigh between 20-40 pounds, so volunteers must be able to lift that amount onto tables & carts.

We are looking for volunteers to help with our Mobile FARMacy Markets! Community FarmShare runs mobile FARMacy markets at 9 different locations throughout Montgomery County from June to November. In 2026 we have 4 markets in Silver Spring, 2 in Gaithersburg, 1 in Germantown, 1 in Montgomery Village, and 1 in Rockville. Volunteers are needed to help our CFS staff set up and close down the market, restock the tables, hand out info/resources and generally be a welcoming, supportive, engaging team member to provide a positive experience in the community. Working at the mobile market offers a unique experience for volunteers to be able to interact and connect with the participants of our programs.

Looking for volunteers to help with our fall, winter, spring and summer basketball league. Volunteers will be working with the game clock, the game book and the concession stand. The seasons are ongoing in the fall, winter and spring. Games will be on Saturdays and Sundays in the Potomac, Rockville, Bethesda and Gaithersburg area. We have boys from 2nd grade to 10th and girls from 4th grade to 8th grade. We are looking fro volunteers aged 13-18. Games usually run from around 8am-7pm with volunteers coming at least 10 minutes before game time. No experience needed we will teach you everything you need to know. Opportunity to help during Annual Turkish Festival in DC. 

The Annual Turkish Festival is a long-standing community event, and this year we will be celebrating its 24th year. It is one of the largest cultural festivals in Washington, DC. Each year, the festival is supported by more than 100 volunteers, including a core group of approximately 60–70 returning volunteers.

The festival runs from early morning through the evening. The opportunity is mostly structured around 4-hour shifts. Some volunteer for one shift, while others may volunteer for two shifts.

Student volunteers assist with a variety of festival-related service activities, including children’s tent activities, tea and coffee service, guest hospitality, volunteer check-in, stage area support, setup, breakdown, arranging tables and chairs, and general festival logistics.

Volunteer Roles (SSL-Compliant)

Volunteers with the Ethiopian Eritrean Special Needs Community (EESNC) support children, youth, and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities, as well as their families, through structured, supervised, and community-based activities.

All volunteer activities are conducted under the direct supervision of an EESNC staff member in public or designated program settings to ensure safety and compliance with SSL requirements.

All volunteer service is designed to be meaningful, structured, and developmentally supportive while maintaining full compliance with MCPS SSL guidelines.

Please note the following guidelines for student service through live virtual platforms:

A student’s parent/guardian must provide the nonprofit with written approval of the student’s participation in the virtual platform prior to the student serving/volunteering.

Students must use personal/private accounts (not MCPS student accounts) to engage in the virtual platform.

Students will only engage with others under the direct supervision of a nonprofit supervisor. The nonprofit supervisor will be directly present in the virtual space (including any breakout sessions) at all times.

The nonprofit supervisor will initiate and host all virtual sessions. If the nonprofit supervisor is not available to initiate and host the virtual session, the session will not occur.

Virtual sessions will not be recorded.

Students should not share or upload any videos, pictures, or images of themselves, unless the nonprofit organization has obtained a signed form/waiver from the student’s parent/guardian authorizing permission/release.

Students’ email addresses/home addresses or any personally identifying information will remain protected and not shared.

At Re’s Kids Club children 4-10 years old can join us on select Saturdays throughout the academic year to experience the magic of Camp Levine in one afternoon. This drop-off “mini-camp” gives children the chance to explore multiple art forms—including hands-on instruction with two different instruments. Pizza dinner is provided!

Re’s Kids Club is looking for three responsible, mature Teen Apprentices to join us for the afternoon! Teen Apprentices will support teachers in the classroom and help guide and encourage kids in each activity. Teen Apprentices should be available for prep and the duration of the event, from 4:00–7:30 PM.

Teen Apprentices do not need to have any musical knowledge or previous experience with Camp Levine or Levine Music.

Teen Apprentices will also:
Develop leadership skills through training and practical experience.
Meet Student Service Learning (SSL) requirements.
Earn an incredible experience to add to a resume or college application.

The Untold Stories program works with communities throughout the county to share diverse stories in parks, along trails, and online. With a focus on historical and cultural narratives, Untold Stories produces interpretive material (e.g. signage, audio content, digital maps) and public programs.

Volunteers with Untold Stories will support these efforts in three ways: 1) assist with info-sharing and activities at larger Parks events (e.g. Sligo Fest); 2) assist with public programs (e.g. Walk and Talks); and 3) assist with community meetings that are part of our community outreach and collaboration work.

Harvest Intercontinental Church in Olney, Maryland serves the mid county region providing food and other vital services to residents every week. Play a vital role and make an impact on 550 families in the mid county region by serving on Fridays sorting and packing supplies in preparation for Saturday distribution.  This is a great opportunity for those who can only serve in the evening hours!   

Help is needed on Fridays between 3:30pm – 6pm to  sort supplies and bag food for Saturday pickup. Tasks may include moving food from pallet to shelves/bags, setting up tables, signing in/signing out site volunteers.  Note this is an IN-PERSON activity held indoors.

Volunteers should wear comfortable attire, be able to stand for 2-3 hours and be able to lift and move minimum of 10-15 pounds repeatedly.

Volunteers may park between the D and E Lots and use the entrance doors that are next to the small traffic circle at the right side of the building.

Sponsored by the Trans Celebration and Planning (TCAP) Committee, we welcome LGBTQIA+ performers to show off their talents on the Pride Center stage. We are seeking students with robotic experience, able and willing to share their knowledge and foster a new class of up-coming robotic engineers. Recruiting experienced robotics instructors to teach mechanical design, hardware-focused programming, engineering documentation, and other competition-related skills. This ongoing, hands-on program emphasizes strengthening students’ practical abilities in mechanical engineering, programming, documentation, and other core areas essential for robotics competitions. Volunteer can provide his/her curriculum or learn to teach the club curriculums.
