Volunteer: MLK Day of Service Team Leaders and Event Support 2026

Volunteer with the Montgomery County Volunteer Center as an event team leader and support staff member to ensure a successful 2026 MLK Day of Service. We anticipate 1,500 volunteers will attend this event at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, where they will complete multiple service projects in 20-minute rotations.

We are seeking confident volunteers to support the smooth operation of the event throughout the day in an oversight capacity, including setup, event flow management, and cleanup. Team Leaders will hold a leadership role and may be assigned up to 6 event staff to manage throughout the event.

Team lead volunteers will be asked to arrive at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 19th, and stay until 5:00 p.m.

Team leader roles and tasks may include:

Support event setup and coordination in a leadership capacity as assigned. Roles assigned may include project zone leaders, overseeing organization arrival management, managing organization check-in, overseeing the loading and unloading of project supplies, operations coordination, and event staff coordination.Work closely with Volunteer Center staff to ensure the successful execution of MLK Day of Service.Act as a main point of contact for resolving any challenges or concerns and escalating to Volunteer Center staff when necessary.Assist with post-event tasks, including event breakdown and clean up, including helping service project leaders load completed projects into vehicles, collecting signage, etc.

A virtual orientation session will be held for all event team leaders on Friday, January 16th, from 7 – 8 p.m.

·       Telephone Communications: Answer calls and manage voicemails, providing helpful assistance and information to our volunteers and community members.

 

·       Manage Inboxes: Monitor our general email inboxes, replying or forwarding messages as needed.

 

·       Welcome & Assist: Greet and support walk-in clients, providing them with the information and direction they need.

 

·       Enter & Organize Data: Enter data and update records to help keep our systems organized and efficient.

 

·       Provide General Office Support: Assist with various administrative and organizational tasks as they arise to help with smooth operations at our center.

 

What We’re Looking For:

·       Strong organizational and communication skills.

·       Comfortable with phone and email communication.

·       Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.

·       A positive attitude and willingness to learn and help wherever needed.

Commitment:

·       This is an in-person volunteer opportunity at the Volunteer Center

·        in Germantown, MD

·       Time commitment of 3 hours for 1 – 3 days per week
