Volunteer: Bethesda Help Back-to-School Food DriveSince 1968, Bethesda Help (https://www.bethesdahelp.org/) has been there to provide food assistance to our neighbors in need in Bethesda and the surrounding areas. Now, for the 58th time, we are here to help as Montgomery County children head back to school. The kids will be excited about the start of a new school year, but many of their parents will be wondering if they can provide the nutritious food their children need to develop strong bodies and minds, and they have reason to be concerned. Social safety net services have been cut for 4,900 of our county neighbors, including their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. These families are turning to food pantries like ours for help. The increase in food requests, along with the rising cost of the basic food we purchase for our pantry and a decrease in food donations, means our stock of food is low. As you can see, your support of Bethesda Help is critical at this time. We stand ready and able to deliver food, but we need your help to keep the Bethesda Help pantry stocked. Volunteer: Bethesda Help - Volunteer DriverBethesda Help Needs Drivers Our Drivers deliver a supply of food to clients within our service area. The time commitment is 2 days a month, with actual delivery time usually taking only 2-3 hours. Drivers pick up pre-packaged food bags from our pantry on Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda and make all deliveries curbside. Drivers must have a cellphone, a vehicle, be a licensed driver, carry vehicle insurance, have access to a computer, and be computer literate. Training is provided. Not approved for MCPS SSL hours. This is a contactless position. ODs work at least one day a month from their home or office. They return client calls between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM on their assigned work day. ODs screen clients to determine if they are in our service area and eligible for services. They provide referrals in cases where we cannot provide services.
