Join us on Saturday, August 8, from 9 am - 11 am for our community clean up (weather permitting)! Spend a Saturday outdoors enjoying the fresh air, and helping care for our planet. Participants will collect litter and recyclables along 1.5 miles Wightman Road. Students can earn SSL hours. We’ll meet at the corner of Prathertown and Wightman Road.

Impact

Prathertown is a neighborhood in Gaithersburg originally founded in 1883 by emancipated people. It has a long and deep rooted history that is evident today in Prathertown's many artifacts and historical homes. By volunteering, you will be contributing to the health of Prathertown’s environment and reducing litter. 

By collecting and removing litter from Prathertown, the animals benefit from a cleaner, safer habitat that helps protect them from pollution, injury, and contaminated food sources. 

By registering, you acknowledge that volunteering may involve physical activity, handling sharp or heavy objects, and contact with unfamiliar persons or animals. Please exercise reasonable care and understand you assume any personal risk of injury or property damage.

Join us to celebrate and preserve the historic community of Prathertown!

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Volunteer Musician to help create a warm, welcoming atmosphere during our community events and gatherings.

What you’ll do:

Provide live music during the event.

Help set the tone with music that supports a family-friendly, community celebration.

Work with event organizers on timing and setup.

Join in creating a joyful and engaging experience for guests of all ages.

Ideal for: Musicians who enjoy community events, sharing their talent, and helping create a memorable experience through music.

Please Note: Volunteers will need to bring their own instruments. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own food and water. Breaks will be included, and SSL forms will be provided. Feel free to bring canned goods to donate to our food drive. Participants should include their best contact number to be informed of any changes to this service project. There will be no refrigeration available for food items. Please contact us with any questions, and specify which instrument you are bringing. Volunteers will be under direct supervision during the entirety of every event.

Purpose

The Volunteer Videographer helps capture the stories, events, and impact of our community programs primarily in Gaithersburg and Germantown areas. Your work will support outreach, documentation, fundraising, and historic preservation by creating high‑quality video content that brings our mission to life. All service activities related to this opportunity will be directly supervised by an adult representative of our organization.

Purpose:  Support neighbors by keeping walkways, driveways, and community paths safe and accessible during winter weather. This role is especially important for seniors, people with disabilities, and households that may struggle with heavy snow or icy conditions.

- Shovel snow from sidewalks, steps, and driveways
- Spread salt or ice melt to prevent slipping
- Clear pathways to mailboxes, trash bins, and vehicles
- Check in with assigned households after storms to ensure safe access
- Report any hazardous conditions that require additional support

What You’ll Do:
- Plant, water, weed, and care for flowers, shrubs, and vegetables
- Help maintain garden beds, walkways, and small landscape features
- Support seasonal clean‑ups and beautification days
- Work alongside neighbors to create welcoming, healthy outdoor spaces

- Reliability and respect for shared community spaces
- Ability to do light to moderate outdoor tasks
- A spirit of teamwork and care for the environment

As a volunteer mentor, you’ll support high school students as they learn project management fundamentals, build confidence, and prepare for real‑world opportunities — including the PMI CAPM® certification.

- Share real‑world examples from your professional experience
- Provide guidance on communication, leadership, and time management

We’re looking for caring, reliable volunteers to help senior citizens get to the places that keep them healthy, connected, and independent. A few hours of your time can make a life‑changing difference for an older neighbor.
What Volunteer Drivers Do:
- Provide rides to medical appointments, grocery stores, community events, and essential errands
- Offer friendly conversation and a reassuring presence
- Help seniors maintain independence and stay engaged in the community
What You Need:
- A valid driver’s license and safe, insured vehicle
- A commitment to kindness, patience, and respect
- Availability for occasional weekday rides (you choose your schedule)

Many older adults face transportation barriers that limit their ability to age in place safely. Your support helps them stay connected, healthy, and active.
