Grace Helping Hands is seeking a skilled and motivated volunteer Website Manager to oversee and maintain our nonprofit’s website. This role is ideal for adults with professional experience in web management, digital communications, or IT who are passionate about supporting our mission to provide hygiene kits to homeless women and children in our community.

Responsibilities:

Maintain and update website content to ensure accuracy and relevance.

Optimize website navigation and user experience for visitors and potential donors.

Collaborate with the GHH team to add new programs, events, and fundraising campaigns online.

Monitor website performance and recommend improvements or updates.

Support integration of online donation tools and volunteer sign-up forms.

Qualifications:

Professional experience managing websites (WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, or similar platforms preferred).

Basic knowledge of web design, SEO, and digital content management.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Passion for nonprofit work and community impact.

At Grace Helping Hands, volunteers are the heart of our mission. We are a grassroots nonprofit organization (501(c)(3)) dedicated to providing toiletry kits, including essential feminine hygiene products, to homeless women and children.

Help spread kindness and hope by writing encouragement cards for individuals we serve. This is a flexible, virtual volunteer opportunity that can be completed from anywhere, on your own schedule.

This Student Service Learning (SSL) opportunity is approved for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) middle and high school students.

Students can earn SSL hours by creating handwritten encouragement cards for unhoused women and children served by Grace Helping Hands.

SSL Hour Credit (MCPS Approved)

30 encouragement cards = 1 SSL hour

• Students may earn up to 3 SSL hours per day during the school year

• Students may earn up to 6 SSL hours per day during holidays and school breaks

Guidelines:

• Messages must be kind, supportive, and appropriate for all audiences

• Do not include last names, phone numbers, email addresses, or social media handles

Submission & Verification Process

Looking for volunteers to help with our fall basketball league. Volunteers will be working with the game clock, the game book and the concession stand. The seasons are ongoing in the fall, winter and spring. Games will be on Saturdays and Sundays in the Potomac, Rockville, Bethesda and Gaithersburg area. We have boys from 2nd grade to 10th and girls from 4th grade to 8th grade. We are looking fro volunteers aged 13-18. Games usually run from around 8am-7pm with volunteers coming at least 10 minutes before game time. No experience needed we will teach you everything you need to know. Come spend the afternoon with a Lucky Dog! We need dog handlers to hold a dog's leash during our adoption event and talk up the dog to potential adopters during the event. We also need drivers to drive Lucky Dogs to and from our adoption event. Handler check-in is at 11:15 am (dog check in starts at 11:30 am). You should plan to stay until 3:30 pm.

The final day to sign up for any event is the Friday before that specific event.

Signing up on this platform does NOT guarantee you a volunteer spot. On the Monday before the event, our events team will reach out to reconfirm your availability. You MUST respond to that email to be added to the list of volunteers for the event.

Join us on February 28, 2026 from 1:00–4:30 pm at the Gaithersburg Public Library Medium Room 3 for our History Makers of Prathertown event. This special program celebrates the legacy and people of Prathertown, a historic African American community founded in 1883 and among the first of its kind in Maryland.

We’re seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help make this community-centered event a success.

Volunteer Roles Include:

Loading and unloading supplies from vehicles

Assisting with guest escort and check-in.

Distributing signs, information sheets, and handouts.

Setting up refreshments and snacks for participants.

Important Details:

Some tasks may involve standing, kneeling, or light lifting.

We need bilingual volunteers to call back people needing help who only speak Spanish. For liability reasons, this opportunity is for volunteers aged 18 and over, and does not qualify for MCPS SSL hours.  

This is an occasional support role and does not require a serious time commitment. We have a volunteer assigned every day ("officer of the day" -  OD) to check our phone messages and call people back. Most of the messages are in English, but if there is a message in Spanish and the OD does not speak Spanish, they would send you an email or text with the time of call and phone number, and leave the message on our answering system for you. When you have the time - in the evening, or the next day - you would listen to the message and call the person back to find out what they need, and set them up for a food delivery from our food driver if they're in our area. It's understood that there are days you would not be available. 

What you need: your own phone*, a good command of both English and Spanish, and a few hours per month.

For liability reasons, this opportunity is for volunteers aged 18 and over, and cannot be used for MCPS Student Service Learning hours.

Come join the Ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated - Eta Pi Zeta Chapter Social Actions Committee as we  get Ready for a fun and impactful day filled with interactive sessions, meaningful conversation, and hands on activities.

Learn about the different aspects of of government, the importance of civic engagements, and gain unique insights from local government officials.

Throughout the event, students will create advocacy plan on issues they've noticed in their communities and how they want to resolve it. Students will then pitch their plan to the Mayor of Rockville.

Middle school and high school students will earn SSL hours and certificates upon completion of the activities.

Often members need help organizing a small space in their home such as a room, a cabinet or a drawer. They might ask for help with getting their documents in order at the end of the year or organizing clothes in their closets for the new season. Sometimes the request has to do with downsizing. Volunteers who would like to become Home Organizers receive a special training and often times work in pairs.

You can volunteer with Silver Spring Village as much or as little as your schedule permits. Village volunteers must undergo a criminal background screening and orientation/training session before volunteering. Description: At our acclaimed Outdoor Food Distribution located in North Bethesda! Every Saturday So What Else provides free food to over 1,500 people in the parking lot in front of our warehouse with the help of our incredible volunteer team.

Volunteers will help with the following tasks: setting up tables, setting up tents, preparing produce, sorting produce, helping with line control, helping to direct traffic, and more. Volunteers should plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for a quick orientation. Volunteers should be able to stand for long periods, lift large boxes, and do a considerable amount of movement. Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes and clothing they can both move around in and get dirty (NO CROCS ALLOWED). This event is entirely outdoors so please dress accordingly and bring both water and a snack to your shift. This is a great opportunity for SSL hours, and children above 10 can participate as long as their parent/guardian accompanies anyone under 16.

AGE RESTRICTION: This is a great opportunity for children aged 10 and above to participate. A parent or guardian must accompany children aged 10-15, and if they arrive without one, their parent or guardian will be contacted. Volunteers aged 16 and above can participate independently without the presence of a parent or guardian.

5:30 am to 7:00 am: Volunteers will help prepare food boxes to load into cars for our drive-thru distribution and assist with traffic control.(Those participating will receive double community service hours- (NOT FOR SSL). *ONLY FOR THIS SHIFT*)

7:00 am to 11:00 am: Volunteers will help load food boxes into cars, assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

10:00 am to 1:00 pm: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes,  assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

12:00 pm to 3 PM: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes and assist with clean-up after the distribution has ended.

We encourage you to sign up for any shift, even if you can't stay for the entire time. Simply inform the site lead upon arrival so our team can accommodate your schedule.

After you pull into the lot, please look for the yellow parking spots immediately to your right. You can park in any of the yellow parking spots in the lot. To find our warehouse entrance, look for signs for "Dogtopia" and then keep walking; our warehouse is to the left of Dogtopia, directly around the corner. When you arrive please walk to the outdoor tables and ask for a staff person, then let them know you're there to volunteer.

We will be preparing over 2000 Goody Bags to support our local teachers, first responders, the homeless and elderly communities.  We will be assembling Easter eggs for our goody bags, preparing over 200 breakfasts for the Men's homeless shelter, Germantown HELP and other assorted service projects.

The Rock Creek Conservation Corps (RC3) program provides high school students in Montgomery County, MD and Washington, DC with a 6-week (June 29 to August 7) paid summer job in the conservation field. Students gain hands-on field experience, learn about environmental restoration efforts, and develop teamwork and leadership skills. Students learn about forest health, water quality, and stormwater management, and apply what they learn by participating in invasive plant removals, litter cleanups, and other related activities. Upon completion of the program, students have a wealth of knowledge and skills that they take with them in their next steps and gain a deeper connection to their community and Rock Creek. 

Eligibility:

No prior experience required! RC3 provides all necessary training and skills. Program Details:

As an RC3 member, you’ll work outdoors in Rock Creek and surrounding areas, helping to restore and protect this beautiful natural space. A majority of the program will take place outside, except when weather conditions are unsafe. TLC's exciting summer small therapeutic group programs are in search of fun, creative, and energetic volunteers. You will help our participants have a summer of fun in a variety of ways. There are exciting weekly themes, arts and crafts, yoga, music and drama and outdoor water activities on any given week. You'll engage with young children regularly and assist them in building social skills, physical strength, and improving their communication. Fun and learning are all in a day's play. Come be a part of your community and have a fantastic time this summer. We welcome volunteers who are age 16 and over. Camps run for 7 weeks. This workshop explores our emotions and the Brain-Gut connection as an interactive exploring the brain-gut connection and its role in emotional processing.  Blending neuroscience with music and movement, participants engage in guided movement experiences to explore fear, anger, joy, and calm. The workshop offers embodied tools for cultivating emotional awareness, regulation, and resilience through sound and movement.

Join us for this Washington Conservatory of Music faculty recital featuring Dr. Dominic Muzzi and Kevin Jang.

Small Things Matter's Kokua Foods Program helps address food insecurity in our community.  

We are looking for volunteers to help us make cookies and other baked treats to share with food insecure families in our community that we serve. These baked treats are a nice way to provide a fun snack to go along with the other foods that we are providing for these families.  We would love to have individuals and groups supporting this effort.

Middle school and high school students are eligible to earn SSL hours by making baked goods until schools return to normal status.  20 cookies (2.5"-3" in diameter) or 20 regular size cupcakes or 1 baked dessert loaf (use an 8.5" X 4.5" X 2.5" pan) = 1 hour of service  (Please note that mini cookies, cupcakes, or breads will not count and that we are no longer looking for regular bread as we are now getting donations of sandwich & loaf bread from a local bakery.)

Instructions (Please note that your work must be submitted via a Google form): 

NOTE: Items should be baked fresh the day before.  Please do not make cookies ahead of time and refrigerate or freeze them.

-Please take photo of them being made and a group photo of the baked items once you've finished. 

-Cookies and muffins should be put into Ziplock bags in batches of 4 and loaves should be wrapped tightly in either Saran Wrap or a gallon size Ziplock bag. Please label them and note if nuts are present.  

-Make a log by writing down the number items made, and have your parent initial it. 

-Submit all your work (photos, signed log, etc.) via the google form:

Baked goods donations can be dropped off at the Bedford Station Apartments (1400 University Blvd E, Hyattsville, MD 20783) on the first and third Fridays of each month from 7:30am-8:30am.  To drop off please bring your baked goods in a box to the main office and leave it by the fence.  Please note: You cannot bring your donations to Bedford Station Apartments any other day or time than stated above.  It is a distribution site, not our office.  Thanks!

We are also able to accept baked goods at the TPSS Coop (201 Ethan Allen Ave, Takoma Park MD 20912) on ALL Friday mornings from 7:30-8:30am, but please let us know what dates and the amounts you are going to be donating by emailing us at thesmallthingsmatter@yahoo.com at least 3 days in advance.  Please note that if the weather is bad (rain/snow) you must contact us the day before so that we can give you an alternative drop off location.  Please drop off your baked goods behind the TPSS Coop building on Columbia Avenue to one of our members (not inside to a TPSS Coop employee). The Children’s Hospital Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Center has partnered with the Student Athletes for Educational Opportunities (SAFEO), Inc. to host the “Sports Safety Makes Winning Possible” conference dedicated to raising awareness, education, prevention, recovery, training and rehabilitation, associated with student athletes and sports-related injuries. The event will consist of a powerful panel of experts, who will engage an audience of DMV area student athletes, coaches, parents and other stakeholders in a discussion about sports safety. We would be happy to have you volunteer at the Interfaith Works Clothing Center and Food Pantry.  The Interfaith Works (IW) Clothing Center and Food Pantry distributes clothing, household goods, and food free of charge to clients so they can pay for rent, bills, and other expenses.  Thousands of individuals, businesses, schools, camps, service organizations, and congregations donate time and goods, which make our program possible.  We are proud to provide the link between people in our community who have things they no longer need or want with the people in the community who are in need of the same items.

Volunteer tasks in the Clothing Center include receiving donations as people drop them off, sorting them by type of donation, hanging clothes and restocking sections in the center, and helping to keep the center clean and tidy.  Volunteer tasks in the Food Pantry include restocking the store, helping answer questions that our families have, checking expiration dates on items, and helping keep track of inventory. 

All new volunteers are required to attend a brief orientation session.  Orientation is offered Wednesdays 2:30pm - 4:30PM and Saturdays 8:30 am - 10:30am. You can sign up for orientation here.

Volunteer shifts are available at the Clothing Center and Food Hub Tuesdays-Fridays 8:00am-4:00pm, and Saturdays 8:00am-2:00pm.  When you arrive to volunteer you will be assigned to the Clothing Center or Food Hub as needed.  You can sign up for volunteer shifts here.

We require that volunteers be at least 14 years old.  All volunteers under 18 years of age must have a parent signature to start their hours.  A parent’s signature can be provided on our online form or in person.

Join the Community Design Lab for a hands-on Volunteer Build Day as we bring our student-designed conservation garden to life at BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. This is the final step of our Spring Design+Build program, where local students and volunteers work side by side to transform ideas into a living landscape that supports pollinators, manages stormwater, and beautifies the community.

You don’t need any special skills, just a willingness to dig in, plant, and learn. We’ll provide tools, gloves, and guidance. Together, we’ll install native plants like black-eyed susans, purple coneflowers, and butterfly weed, creating a lasting outdoor classroom and gathering space for all.

Small Things Matter's Crafting for Charity Program helps those in need with handmade items.  We are looking for volunteers to help us decorate bookmarks as part of our literacy program for underserved children.  We provide them with a choice of a brand new book and they also get to pick a handmade bookmark of their choice.  Encouraging a lifelong love of reading can help these children succeed in school and in life. We would love to have individuals and groups help us by decorating bookmarks.

Middle school and high school students are eligible to earn SSL hours by decorating bookmarks.

5 decorated bookmarks = 1 SSL hour of service.

-Please document your bookmark decorating by taking an action shot photo of them being made and a group shot of the finished items once you've finished decorating them!

-Decorate the bookmarks either by using markers, paints, etc.  Please do not glue any 3-D items or use stickers/washi tape. Please do not include anything religious in either written words or pictures.  Do NOT sign the bookmarks with your name, etc. Take a group shot of the finished items.

Join us in honoring Earth Day with a community cleanup and gardening in Prathertown! Together, we’ll make a hands-on difference by keeping our local environment healthy and beautiful on Saturday, April 25, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm (weather permitting). 

Spend a Saturday outdoors enjoying the fresh air, connecting with neighbors, and helping care for our planet. Participants will collect litter and recyclables along 1.5 miles Wightman Road. Students can earn SSL hours. We’ll meet at the corner of Prathertown and Wightman Road. In the morning we will be having a community cleanup, followed by sustainable gardening. We will work together to count and take photos of every bag of trash collected for a report to the Department of Transportation. You’re also welcome to bring a canned food item for our Earth Day food drive supporting local families.

Impact

Prathertown is a neighborhood in Gaithersburg originally founded in 1883 by emancipated people. It has a long and deep rooted history that is evident today in Prathertown's many artifacts and historical homes. By volunteering, you will be contributing to the health of Prathertown’s environment and reducing litter. 

By collecting and removing litter from Prathertown, the animals benefit from a cleaner, safer habitat that helps protect them from pollution, injury, and contaminated food sources.

Help us make our new families feel at home!

When families move into AHC's affordable housing communities, we like to give them Welcome Bags filled with essential household supplies to say, "welcome home."

Volunteers will purchase all the items to fill the bags. A large, sturdy, reusable tote bag with a square or rectangle base is ideal. For purposes of hygiene and dignity, we ask that all items are new, unopened and unused. Please make sure items fit into the bags and limit your donations to the items listed below. We do not have the space or capacity to accept other items. Most volunteers find it useful and cost-effective to purchase items in bulk, as long as each final product has all the necessary items in it. Small 8 oz containers of all liquids are best, since the bags can get quite bulky. Thank you!

Volunteers will assist in distributing boxes of food, including fruit, vegetables and canned goods, to low-income senior citizens at AHC's Charter House, an affordable housing apartment building located in Silver Spring. Volunteers will bring food inside building to 2nd floor lobby using carts & elevators. Residents will pick up food boxes.

Volunteers should be friendly and reliable, able to work both independently and in a small group. Food boxes weigh between 20-40 pounds, so volunteers must be able to lift that amount onto tables & carts.

We're looking for dedicated volunteers to help out around our Montgomery County Warehouse, which takes in thousand of pounds of donated food, clothing, toys, household goods, diapers and more each day. Volunteers will help with the following projects: organizing and displaying donations, helping to take inventory, cleaning and organizing our space, making grocery bags for home deliveries, helping to load and unload delivery vehicles and more! Age requirements: We accept volunteers aged 10 and older. Physical ability: While some of these tasks are physically strenuous, we have plenty of opportunities for folks that have physical limitations or other restrictions, and our warehouse is wheelchair accessible. Arise and Flourish, is a nonprofit organization based in Montgomery County, Maryland that speaks to students about substance abuse prevention by sharing stories from persons in long-term recovery. Through the schools and community, we bring real life stories to our youth showing the devastation of the disease of addiction. By emphasizing the importance of understanding the cycle of addiction, our goal is to arm our youth with the knowledge of the dangers associated with drug and alcohol use, how to prevent addiction, and how to seek help.

Since 2017, Arise and Flourish has helped to bring a greater awareness of the addiction problem by visiting 490 Middle and High schools in Montgomery County, Maryland and speaking to more than 49,000 students.  We are run by volunteers who dedicate their time to visiting the schools. In order for our organization to grow and bring continued awareness to the schools and community, we need your help to continue our mission.

We are looking for young people in recovery who have been sober for one year or more and are interested in becoming a volunteer with Arise and Flourish, Inc. to speak to MCPS MS and HS students, sharing their personal story and educating them about the cycle of addiction.

Please note that MCPS has not vetted the YouTube videos created by our organization and parents/guardians are responsible for previewing the videos and then providing parent permission for their students to view the videos.

Once approved, students will watch two video presentations provided by our organization.

How to earn community service hours (SSL):

Students have the ability to earn 1 SSL hour for the quality completion of this project and can earn up to 4 SSL hours in total (cumulative - not per year) for each speaker video watched and paper written (up to 4 speaker videos along with the one video for the cycle of addiction).

When your paper or art project is complete, e-mail info@ariseandflourish.org your 2-page paper or an electronic copy of your art project and paragraph to collect your signed SSL sheet for this project. Students will need to cc their parents as well on the email submission. Please allow 3-5 business days to receive your signed SSL form.

Privacy:

Please, do not share any pictures or likeness of the students as well as personal information such as home address, email or phone number etc. in your paper or artwork. Also, please do not include any real-life pictures or images of yourself. We ask that students include their first name, grade and school only on each submission.

EveryMind will host a community 5K race and 1K walk on May 10, 2026. Summer String Institute (SSI) is a two-week camp for string players in grades 2-12. The camp is held at the River Road Unitarian in Bethesda, MD. It provides students with a holistic musical experience that includes lessons, chamber music, orchestral experience, music theory, movement, and more!

Volunteers at camp will help the Director and our faculty with setting up and cleaning up for each class and rehearsal, checking students in and out of the camp, distributing snacks and water during breaks, and performing administrative duties such as making copies, organizing music and folders, and other camp daily logistics as needed.

We need multiple volunteers for each week of camp. The hours of work are 9 am- 5 pm Monday-Thursday and 9 am- 6 pm on Fridays. The first session of camp is from July 20-24, and the second session is from July 27-31.

This Spring 2026 special performance showcases a masterful selection of classical works, bringing together musicians, community, and the joy of live performance. This performance features conductor Jovan Zivkovic leading the Washington Conservatory Orchestra.

YMCA Youth Links Mentoring is looking for adult volunteers to be positive role models for youth between the ages of 5-19. Our program is a collaboration between Montgomery County Child Welfare, the Circuit Court, Montgomery County Public Schools, the Department of Juvenile Services and the YMCA. Many of the children in our program live in foster or other out-of-home care; most are monitored by Child Welfare because of neglect, abuse or other challenges in the home.  Mentoring guarantees these young people that there is someone who cares about them, and that they are not alone in dealing with life’s day-to-day challenges.  

With just 4 - 8 hours a month, you can support boys and girls living all over Montgomery County by offering friendship, encouragement, and learning opportunities. Volunteer mentors are required to attend informational and training sessions. Once matched with a mentee, mentors are encouraged to attend continuing education workshops and program events.

Join our next Volunteer Training - April 14th, 15th & 16th, 2026 from 9am to 4pm in Gaithersburg, MD.

Volunteers are the heart of CaringMatters. In order to responsibly serve patients and the bereaved, every volunteer who works directly with clients must complete a three-day introductory training session, which is often described by graduates as a "transformative experience." 

Because of the interaction volunteers have with clients, necessary background checks, paperwork and other items that must be completed before attending the New Volunteer Training.  These requirements include:

Seeking volunteers for our overnight weekend camp, Camp Erin, for children grieving the death of a loved one. Camp Erin is a bereavement camp offered to children ages 6 through 17 and includes age-appropriate discussions and fun-filled creative experiences designed to help children share their feelings with their peers who are in similar situations. Camp Erin is offered in partnership between CaringMatters and Bar-T, a premier childcare provider. Camp Erin Montgomery County is scheduled to be held April 24-26, 2026 at Bar-T Mountainside in Frederick.

We need adult volunteers who serve in a variety of roles. We especially need volunteers who can serve as a "Big Buddy" to a child who has recently experienced the death of a loved one. A Big Buddy provides caring support to his or her assigned Little Buddy by listening to the child discuss the loss, both in the supervised group sessions and throughout the camp events.

Volunteers will work alongside supervisory staff on tasks that include ushering at theatrical performances and family arts events; assisting InterAct staff and other volunteers with conducting arts activities with children and adults before shows; and assisting with logistics at InterAct Story Theatre events. Most events take place in Wheaton as part of the Wheaton Family Theatre Series, but specific locations can vary. Interested volunteers become part of our mailing list as opportunities arise, as events are held monthly. 

Our Volunteers Child Advocates work one-on-one with unaccompanied migrant children to connect with them and advocate for their rights. Child Advocates meet on a weekly basis for about an hour plus travel time.

The Reading Express opens the door for imagination and endless possibilities.  Make a video of a children's book.  Show the book, page by page, as you read it for a child.  Please check with the Chief Intern for pre-approval of the book.  These videos, upon approval, will be placed on a playlist that will be sent through QR codes on Tacy Foundation business card gifts to Children's National Hospital patients, Fisher Houses nationwide, and to Red Cross stations where children and their families are impacted by challenges of fires, floods, and other hardships.  

Please join us by reading stories on a YouTube video.  Choose stories that are not copyrighted on or by writing and illustrating one of your own picture books.

SSL Hours for this project are determined by MCPS-SSL Department and Tacy Foundation.

1 hour of SSL Credit per video of a children's book.

For Chapter books, MCPS and Tacy Foundation will pre-approve the credit hours based on the length and time making the video.

Let’s Play America is a nonprofit organization based in Takoma Park, Maryland, dedicated to strengthening communities through the power of play. We are seeking enthusiastic, mission-driven individuals who value play and want to share their talents. These volunteer roles have the potential to grow into paid positions.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

1. Play Event Planner
Volunteer for 3–6 months alongside our Co-Founder and Executive Director, Pat Rumbaugh, The Play Lady. Learn the ins and outs of planning a community play event.

Support and maintain the Let’s Play America website, letsplayamerica.org.

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is looking for volunteer dog and cat drivers for our rescue animals!

We need volunteers that LOVE to drive and are willing to pick up dogs or cats from various locations in VA, MD, DC and deliver them to adoption events or foster homes so they can be safe and find loving adoptive families!

Many of animals are in local boardng kennels and their only chance to get adopted is to attend Saturday and Sunday afternoon adoption events -- but unless they get a volunteer driver willing to pick them up and drop them back off if not adopted -- they aren't able to attend the events.

Saturday Hours:

Drop animal off at event by 11:45am -- pick them back up at 2pm (if the animal gets adopted we call you!)

Sunday Hours:

Drop animal off at event by 11:45am -- pick them back up at 3pm (if the animal gets adopted we call you!)

You choose when you are available and which locations you are willing to drive to!  We send weekly emails with which dogs and cats we need help driving and where they are located and you just respond if you are available!  Volunteer hours will be signed off for you and your mileage and gas are tax deductible!

Cats come in travel crates and you can borrow travel crates from us for dogs if you want or you can use their leash to tether them to a headrest in your car!

Birthday Cakes 4 Free Maryland (BC4F) is a nonprofit organization that collects and delivers birthday cakes to financially and socially disadvantaged children and seniors. We are an entirely student run organization!

Anyone can become a volunteer! There is no minimum age requirement. This is a great way to start earning SSL hours in middle school. 

Students bake cakes in their homes. Cakes must meet the container guidelines which are outlined on www.bc4f.org. The decoration/flavor/design of your cake(s) is up to you but we would prefer if you could write “Happy Birthday!” on your cake(s). You can make a cake from a cake mix or your favorite recipe. Round, square or rectangle cakes are all okay as long as they are individually and securely boxed, with lids taped for transport. Round cakes must have multiple layers. Single layer 9" round cakes will not earn SSL hours. We also accept cupcakes. Twenty-four cupcakes are equivalent to one cake. Cake requirements are posted on our website.  We DO NOT accept pies or alternative baked goods. ALL decorations MUST be edible. https://www.bc4f.org/faq

How to Sign-Up to Bake Cakes

You must SIGN-UP for our Newsletter in order to receive the Google Form to sign-up to bake cakes. To subscribe, go to https://www.bc4f.org/newsletter. DO NOT USE an MCPS email address as all external emails are blocked. Once a month, you will receive information about delivery dates, delivery address, and delivery times. Currently, we accept cake donations on one Sunday a month. Our current delivery location is in Rockville near Farmland Elementary School. The Google Form is included in the monthly Newsletter so that you can sign-up with the number of cakes you would like to donate. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF CAKES DONATED IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE MORE VOLUNTEERS. The SSL form is provided at the time/date of cake delivery as long as the cake(s) meet donation requirements. SSL hours are awarded as follows:

1 cake (or 24 cupcakes) = 2 total SSL hours

2 cakes (or 48 cupcakes) = 3 total SSL hours

3 cakes (or 72 cupcakes) = 4 total SSL hours

4 cakes (or 96 cupcakes) = 5 total SSL hours

5 cakes (or 120 cupcakes) = 6 total SSL hours

6 cakes (or 144 cupcakes) = 7 total SSL hours

7 cakes (or 168 cupcakes) = 8 total SSL hours

WeAchieve is a not-for-profit service provider, founded in 1948.  We support individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities and their families.  We assist individuals in finding and keeping employment in the community, living independently as possible with a wide range of staff support options, nursing case management, and exploring and participating as fully as desired in their communities.  We are seeking volunteers and groups who are interested in joining us in our mission.

Activities and potential projects include art, crafting, job coaching, providing

one-on-one companionship, home renovation, gardening, music

movement, exercise, travel, cooking and more!  We welcome

any time commitment and look forward to growing and engaging
