We're so excited to reconnect with many senior centers open for in-person performance now.  YAMS is recruiting volunteers to perform in senior centers around Rockville, Potomac, Silver Spring, and Northern Virginia, etc. If you are interested in sharing your music with seniors, this will be a super exciting experience for you to bring the music and joy to them and also build up your own performance skill.  1-3hr SSL will be issued for each performance at this special period.

Imagination Stage is seeking Teen volunteers to assist with our 2025 Summer Camps! Volunteering at Imagination Stage provides young people with the opportunity to assist in the classroom while learning new theater and educational skills! Teen volunteers will aid in setting up the classroom space, model exemplary behavior for the campers, and assist our teaching artists in creating a positive camp atmosphere. Volunteers do not need to commit for the entire summer; if selected as a teen volunteer, we will accommodate your busy summer schedule. Volunteers are integral to restoring the Anacostia River. It is thanks to the work of the hundreds of thousands of Anacostia Watershed Society volunteers through the years that the river has improved. Our volunteers restore wetlands, plant native plants, collect seeds, and help with many other projects - often times pieces of larger plans that make a big impact on the river. All of our volunteer activities have an educational component and are an opportunity to learn about the watershed.

Helping Hands for Humanity supports Children's Education through charitable activities.

We need volunteers to help promote and support our cause: to eradicate poverty through education. 

Middle school and high school students are eligible to earn SSL hours by creating social media content. 

SSL Hours: Each content created for a single social media content approved by hhhumanity.org is eligible for an award of One and a half (1.5) SSL hours upon review and approval by hhhumanity.org. Please follow the instructions below for specific requirements on the content. These requirements must be met for the content to be approved.

Instructions :

1. Apply for the  Volunteer position by responding to a volunteer opportunity at MC Volunteer Center. Upon your selection, you will be assigned an Activity for Volunteering.

3. Create the content with the following guidelines:

            a. Name the Tile for the Social Media Post

            b. Write the description for the posting. The description should include an introduction/context, message, and hashtags

            c. Create a collage of pictures, video reels, and links to media such as YouTube.

4. Submit the finalized content in a document for approval by emailing to volunteer@hhhumanity.org

5. Make changes as necessary based on the input provided by hhhumanity.org and resubmit the revised content.

Our next meeting is Tuesday 30 September 2025, drop in between 10am and 3pm.

(1) Music Videos for hospitals. The Tacy Foundation receives video recordings from volunteers for hospitals and seniors in the metropolitan area of Washington/Baltimore/Wilmington/Philadelphia/New York City, the Northeast corridor. The YouTube playlists are also sent nationwide to Fisher Houses and hospitals wherever requested.  Children are invited to participate in the recording and distribution for these musical gifts. The Foundation is dedicated to sending sounds of hope and healing through music.  1 hour of SSL Credit per video.  Songs must be at least late elementary/intermediate level and range from 3 to 10 minutes in length.). Public Domain status or written permission from the publisher are required.

This is an ongoing project.  Contact The Tacy Foundation for opportunities. Videos are uploaded on the Foundation's YouTube Playlist. Each year over 300 videos are placed on a new playlist for the purpose of sending hope and healing into the communities. Thanks to technology, the music videos are placed on QR code Cards with contact information for the recipients.  This makes for easy shipping along with handmade greeting cards from volunteers. 

(2) The Tacy Foundation sponsors live music performances at NIH Clinical Research Center's Hall of Hope & Seniors Centers, and acts as liaison for American Red Cross Teen Pianists at Walter Reed-Bethesda Lobby of the America Building.   (2.0 hours of ssl credit per concert.)

(3) The Tacy Foundation sponsors Piano Pals, an internship program for teen pianists to mentor elementary school children who cannot afford music lessons at some elementary public schools' aftercare programs in Montgomery County, MD.  (1.5 hours  of SSL credit per session)

(4) The Reading Express brings a story to life through children's books. Volunteers are needed to supervise craft tables at the library and help with cleanup following the event. Playing an instrument is required for recording music and participation in live concerts. Playing an instrument, organizing lesson material and communicating with children, a congenial outgoing personality, compassion for younger children, and dependability are required for the internship/mentor in the Piano Pals Program.  (1 hour of SSL Credit per book)

A student’s parent/guardian must provide the nonprofit with written approval of the student’s participation in the virtual platform prior to the student serving/volunteering.

Students must use personal/private accounts (not MCPS student accounts) to engage in the virtual platform.

Students will only engage with others under the direct supervision of a nonprofit supervisor. The nonprofit supervisor will be directly present in the virtual space (including any breakout sessions) at all times.

The nonprofit supervisor will initiate and host all virtual sessions. If the nonprofit supervisor is not available to initiate and host the virtual session, the session will not occur.

5. Piano Pals® Training for Elementary School Children in Title 1
Schools: For Grades 3-5. This online class serves as preparation for mentoring when schools open and children will attend the afterschool program. Should schools be closed to afterschool activities, these classes will resume until schools open.
1 hour of ssl credit per class attended.

6. This is a free, 5-hour interactive course that puts the participant in the role of a provider in a post-disaster scene. This course is for individuals new to disaster response who want to learn the core goals of PFA, as well as for seasoned practitioners who want a review. It features innovative activities, video demonstrations, and mentor tips from the nation’s trauma experts and survivors. PFA online also offers a Learning Community where participants can share about experiences using PFA in the field, receive guidance during times of disaster, and obtain additional resources and training.

The course can be completed in small blocks of time or as time permits.

Community Reach of Montgomery County's Senior Reach Program seeks volunteers to assist seniors with using and/or troubleshooting technical issues with their mobile devices at Victory Court Senior Apartments in Rockville on Tuesdays from noon to 2:00 p.m. Proficiency in using various types of mobile devices and software is preferred. Experience working with seniors is also preferred.

Occasionally, Child Welfare Services need assistance with making folders, checking information inside folders, photocopying, putting together packets, filing and very light secretarial duties as needed. Individuals will be exposed to case sensitive information and must be willing to sign a confidentiality waiver form. Great for teenagers but not limited to teenagers.

Volunteers will work alongside supervisory staff on tasks that include ushering at theatrical performances and family arts events; assisting InterAct staff and other volunteers with conducting arts activities with children and adults before shows; and assisting with logistics at InterAct Story Theatre events. Most events take place in Wheaton as part of the Wheaton Family Theatre Series, but specific locations can vary. Interested volunteers become part of our mailing list as opportunities arise, as events are held monthly.

Approximately once a month, volunteers – adults, children, individuals, families, and groups – put on hairnets, gloves, and aprons and carefully measure and package ingredients that become over 10,000 nutritious meals for the underserved in our area. Our packing events are tikkun olam at its very heart, and the meals we pack are on people’s tables within a week.

Our nonprofit organization, Live Peace Tech Corporation, will be engaging with students through a live virtual platform (i.e. Zoom, Google Meet, Webex, etc.). 

We will provide direct supervision by an adult nonprofit representative (who is not the student’s parent/guardian or relative) in any virtual space (including breakout sessions) for the entire session.

A student’s parent/guardian must provide our organization with written approval of the student’s participation in the virtual platform prior to the student serving/volunteering.

Students must use personal/private accounts (not MCPS student accounts) to engage in the virtual platform.

Students will only engage with others under the direct supervision of a nonprofit supervisor. The nonprofit supervisor will be directly present in the virtual space (including any breakout sessions) at all times.

The nonprofit supervisor will initiate and host all virtual sessions. If the nonprofit supervisor is not available to initiate and host the virtual session, the session will not occur.

Virtual sessions will not be recorded.

Students should not share or upload any videos, pictures, or images of themselves, unless the nonprofit organization has obtained a signed form/waiver from the student’s parent/guardian authorizing permission/release.

Students’ email addresses/home addresses or any personally identifying information will remain protected and not shared.

Process for tracking, logging, and verifying students’ service hours:

#For any activities that are supervised live through a virtual platform or in a public space, students will earn hour-for-hour the amount of time served when they are directly supervised.

#For any activity that will be performed by the students on their own at home without direct/live supervision:

For activities that students complete independently at home without direct or live supervision, the following criteria must be met to ensure successful completion:

Clear Objectives: Each activity must have a specific goal or outcome that aligns with the organization’s mission. The student should be able to articulate how their work meets these objectives.

Verification: Evidence of the completed activity must be submitted, including but not limited to:

Photos of the work completed

Written reflection or description of the process and outcomes

Presentation or report (video, PowerPoint, etc.)

Quality Standards: The final product must meet the quality standards set by the organization. These standards should be clearly communicated upfront to the students and include:

Relevance to the environmental, economic or social cause

Accuracy, creativity, or effectiveness of the solution

Ability to demonstrate a connection to the learning outcomes

To ensure equitable awarding of SSL (Student Service Learning) hours, students will be credited based on the successful completion of specific activities rather than a log of time spent. The following equivalency model will be used:

Activity 1: Green Entrepreneurship or Green Career Program

Research and present a report on a sustainable business idea.

Equivalency: 2 hours for research + 1 hour for the presentation = 3 SSL hours.

Activity 2: Community Engagement Campaign

Design a campaign (flyers, social media) to raise awareness of sustainability issues in the community.

Equivalency: 2 hours of design work = 2 SSL hours.

Students are required to submit their final products for review to the organization, following these steps:

Submission of Materials:

All completed materials (photos, reports, presentations) must be submitted via email or an online submission form provided by the organization.

A deadline for submission will be clearly communicated.

Review Process:

A designated reviewer from the organization will assess the submissions against the set criteria for completion and quality.

Feedback will be provided within one week of submission.

Final Approval:

Upon successful completion of the project, the student will receive confirmation of the awarded SSL hours.

If revisions are needed, students will be given guidance and a deadline for resubmission.

All activities and SSL hours must adhere to the MCPS SSL guidelines for virtual/remote service, including documentation and approval processes.

By following these steps, we ensure students receive SSL hours equitably while contributing meaningfully to the community.

Are you passionate about making a meaningful impact in the lives of adults with autism? Madison Fields is seeking dedicated volunteers to support our Job Readiness Program, helping individuals prepare for meaningful employment opportunities.

As a volunteer in our Job Readiness Program, you will be involved in the following key tasks:

Providing Guidance and Support: As a mentor, you will offer guidance and encouragement to our participants, helping them build confidence in their tasks and abilities.

Skill Development: You will assist participants with job-related skills around our main barn, chickens, and soapery.

The Agricultural History Farm Park is a scenic 455-acre park featuring rolling hills, open fields, an apple orchard, and a variety of farm animals which offers a unique perspective on the county's rich farming heritage. The Magruder-Bussard farmstead is located within Farm Park and past farming practices are interpreted for the public in a historic farmhouse, barn, assorted farm buildings, and portions of the general property. In addition to the farmstead, the Park includes a 39-acre parcel on the western edge of the farm that was once home to a kinship-based African American community called Newmantown. The Farm Park has many visitors, and volunteers who have a love of history will assist staff in helping visitors connect to the history of the Farm Park through special events and programs.

This opportunity is for individuals who would assist the Farm Park with its special events and programs, as needed, held throughout the year including the Harvest Festival and Montgomery County's Heritage Days. Individuals would help with set-up and clean-up; and assist staff with various duties and tasks at special events and/or programs.

Step back in time to share your passion for history with visitors of all ages. Bring history to life as an Oakley Cabin Tour Guide.

Learn about the lives of Oakley Cabin's African American community following the end of the Civil War and Emancipation. You'll also be taught about the Reconstruction Era, how people lived off natural resources, 19th century folk remedies and other living history demonstrations.  Once trained you will be able to give tours of the Cabin to our guests who visit the site on weekends.

We are looking for guides who are comfortable working with youth and adult audiences, and able to commit to 5 weekends during the season, April through November.

This position is very rewarding as most of our visitors really enjoy learning what school was like back in early Montgomery County! 

We're looking for volunteers with good communication skills, who enjoy working outdoors and can handle all types of conditions as the schoolhouse has no air conditioning or heat.  

The schoolhouse is open the first Sunday of each month, April through October.

The Agricultural History Farm Park (AHFP) is seeking those with a love of history to share their time and talents in telling the story of Montgomery County's rich agricultural and cultural heritage!  This is a long-term volunteer position for at least one season.

Greeters/Docents will help visitors connect to the history of the Farm by assisting with:

Guides/Docents should be enthusiastic and willing to learn about local Maryland history and about the families that lived and worked at and around the farm. They should also have a general working knowledge of American History, open to visitor engagement and actively involved with museum house programs.

Docent schedules are:

This position requires public speaking, long periods of standing, sitting, walking, and working in a variety of weather conditions.

Training and supervision will be provided by the Museum Educator.

Duties include:

The Holy Cross Medical Adult Day Center is located at 9805 Dameron Drive, Silver Spring, Maryland, 20902, and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The center provides a full scope of aging adult services including medical, social, rehabilitative, and recreational programs focused on compassion, quality of life, and safety for older adults.   And the center’s full-time activity aides have developed recreational programs to encourage social interaction, improve participants’ physical well-being, stimulate cognitive functioning and decrease depression. This is an amazing opportunity to gain volunteer experience helping Arise and Flourish, a non-profit organization based in Montgomery County, Maryland that speaks to students about substance use and misuse.  During the last ten years, Arise and Flourish has paved the way through public and private schools on educating our youth of the dangers associated with addiction. Our program delivers a robust and real-life look into the cycle of addiction and provides an understanding, knowledge and insight on how to exercise prevention. Arise and Flourish’s family of dedicated volunteers have delivered our program to more than 230 schools and have reached over 33,000 students with our impactful message of prevention and hope. In addition to our visits to schools, we are also asking for the student’s assistance to continue the education of addiction and prevention through SSL hours. 

What students will do:

Student will first need to complete the volunteer form/parent/guardian permission slip and submit via to e-mail info@ariseandflourish.org. Please note that MCPS has not vetted the YouTube videos created by our organization and parents/guardians are responsible for previewing the videos and then providing parent permission for their students to view the videos.

Once approved, students will watch two video presentations provided by our organization.

How to earn community service hours (SSL):

Students have the ability to earn 1 SSL hour for the quality completion of this project and can earn up to 4 SSL hours in total (cumulative - not per year) for each speaker video watched and paper written (up to 4 speaker videos along with the one video for the cycle of addiction).

When your paper or art project is complete, e-mail info@ariseandflourish.org your 2-page paper or an electronic copy of your art project and paragraph to collect your signed SSL sheet for this project. Students will need to cc their parents as well on the email submission. Please allow 3-5 business days to receive your signed SSL form.

Privacy:

Please, do not share any pictures or likeness of the students as well as personal information such as home address, email or phone number etc. in your paper or artwork. Also, please do not include any real-life pictures or images of yourself. We ask that students include their first name, grade and school only on each submission.

The AHFP is a 455 acre park open 7 days a week from sunrise to sunset. It is a beautiful setting of a historic farm, including several outbuildings and a farmhouse.

Near the farmhouse are two demonstration gardens that are used to explain how people used smaller gardens to feed themselves and their families, and a garden for pleasure with beautiful flowers.

We need your help with watering, weeding, pruning, and other routine care. We are looking for help on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. or Saturday during the growing season, flexible schedule worked out with site manager.

Some gardening experience is helpful, but training will be offered. High school youth 16 and older are welcome!

Duties for the maintenance of the garden beds include:
- Watering
- Weeding
- Dead heading
- Raking

Requirements include:
- Some gardening experience.
- Able to work out in different weather conditions, include heat, cold, humidity.
- Able to bend, kneel, grasp, lift weight up to 15 lbs.
- Able to work on unsteady ground.
- Background screening required.

Join the Gardening Team & plant and maintain gardens at Inwood House. In this role, volunteers will help cultivate grounds that are well-cared for and welcoming. Volunteers who enjoy being outdoors, working with their hands, engaging with residents and educating residents on gardening, and being creative will thrive in this role.

COMMITMENT This position has flexible hours, and we will work with your schedule. Having one consistent day/time per week to assist in the gardens and assist the residents with gardening is preferred.

1. Perform gardening duties including weeding, digging, pruning, planting, sweeping paths, poisoning weeds, cleaning, general repairs and ad hoc duties as assigned.

 2. Help maintain the gardens and grounds in good condition together with various displays of plants.

 4. Maintain herbs, fruits and vegetable garden and harvest herbs, fruits and vegetables when ready.

This is a good opportunity to spend some time with our clients, as well as have some fun. Come in and help with tabletop games. If the volunteer is under the age of 18, an adult chaperone will have to accompany them during the evening hours.

Warrior Canine Connection is a non-profit organization which breeds, raises and trains dogs with the assistance of Veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), or mobility issues. These dogs are eventually placed as service dogs for Wounded Warriors, military family support dogs, or facility dogs for Veteran Organizations. 

We are always looking for Canine Care Volunteers. Our Canine Care Volunteer slots are currently daily from 8am-10am, and 6-8pm. This volunteer position offers volunteers the opportunity to progress from our entry level Tier 1, where volunteers will be washing bowls, filling Kongs, and filling water buckets, up to Tier 2 where volunteers will have the opportunity to walk, bathe and do enrichment with our Service Dogs in Training.  

To become a Canine Care Volunteer, you must be at least 16 years old, or 12 years old and accompanied by a parent or guardian and attend a Canine Care Volunteer Orientation that takes place monthly in person at our Healing Quarters in Boyds, MD. This orientation is designed to familiarize you with our mission, and expectations and guidelines of our operations so you are equipped with the context and information in anticipation for your first shift. You will receive a reminder email from SignUp a few days prior of your assignment. After attending orientation, we’ll send you a separate link to sign up for your first shift. Volunteer-Office/Program Coordinator:   The mission of the Montgomery County Police Department’s Keeping Seniors Safe (KSS) outreach program is to educate senior groups on ways to prevent fraud, scams, and identity theft. Our speakers also focus on how to stay safe at home, when out shopping, and to provide tips on emergency preparedness.   We seek an organized individual to serve as the primary liaison to a friendly team of volunteer KSS presenters to handle requests for presentations via telephone and email while maintaining a detailed group calendar of scheduled events. We would look to you for creative ideas on how to market the KSS program when reaching out to community recreation centers, senior living facilities and faith communities who might benefit from free speakers to educate senior audiences. We also need you to order brochures on safety-related topics and to keep them well-stocked and neatly displayed in the Volunteer Resources Office. The Program Coordinator will also collect and compile data which will be used to document the outcome of this important MCPD community outreach program. If you wish to apply your administrative talents, can work independently, and would find it rewarding to implement a systematic approach to coordinate this growing volunteer-driven program, please submit your application today.

They work side by side in support of the line officers, command staff, and civilian employees. What special projects may I be involved with? Assist Police Officers with Alcohol Enforcement efforts. Assist Officers at special community events such as the County Fair and Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Monthly Ride-Along opportunity with police officers. BlackRock Center for the Arts strives to bring inspiring performances and visual art experiences to a diverse audience in the Germantown area. Our volunteers are a major part of bringing this mission to life! We are looking for individuals to be Information Desk Attendants. In this role, volunteers will answer questions from the public via telephone, email, and in-person. They will also act as the eyes and ears of the lobby and art galleries.

Volunteers will be scheduled to work specific shifts on a weekly basis. The shifts are based on BlackRock’s hours. Currently they are Noon until 4PM, Tuesday through Saturday. We request Volunteers to sign up to work the same day every week throughout the year and remain for the entire shift.

We are looking for motivated, energetic, creative and dependable people who can assist our swim instructors with their lessons. Swimming experience is a must. You will work with our children, teens and young adults directly. We are looking for motivated, energetic, creative and dependable people who can assist our swim instructors with their lessons. Swimming experience is a must. You will work with our children, teens and young adults directly. We are looking for people who are involved in sports, fitness and the desire to work with children, teens and young adults. They must be dependable, energetic, motivated and creative people who are interested in teaching sports and fitness activities to participants with developmental disabilities including ADD, ADHD, and those on the autistic spectrum. You will be learning unique and innovative strategies to help them learn how to play sports. The experience is very rewarding and will give you a very good idea of the wide range of developmental disabilities in our world. A love and knowledge of sports and fitness is required.

interPLAY Orchestra rehearses and performs at Strathmore Music Center in North Bethesda, Maryland. Our purpose is to provide a stimulating creative and unique approach to music for adults with intellectual, developmental and/or physical disabilities. Most of the Musicians in our orchestra are not able to read music, which has often been a barrier to musical expression. The Musicians work side by side with non-disabled volunteer students and adult artists.

Student (SSL) Volunteers assist interPLAY Orchestra with music operations and other orchestra support functions. Volunteers who assist our Orchestra Conductor with live rehearsals and performances are known as "Bandaides". Live rehearsals are held every Monday evening from 6:30-8:00pm, at Strathmore. 

Students who are at least 15 years old may apply to be a Bandaide. While training is available, we give preference to students who have some prior musical experience or experience working with persons with disabilities. Students who wish to do other kinds of orchestra support work are not required to have prior experience, but a desire to learn and reliability are very important. Additional support work may include clerical and administrative, inventory, event coordination, IT support, graphic design, and marketing support.  

All on-site work is supervised and performed either at Strathmore or other public venues in the Rockville area.

Regarding how we will track and verify SSL hours:

--- Students will track their volunteer hours by making a copy of the following template. The document must be titled following the template - (ex: “John Smith_2021-2022 Time Collection”). On the first row list your full name. On the second row, please state if you are applying for the PVSA award.

--- After each class, document the date, the duration and the preparation time of the class. The default total class preparation time is the same as the duration of the class. (Ex. If your class is 40 minutes long, you enter 40 minutes for the class preparation). 

--- If your preparation time is more than the default time, PLE and all its staff reserve the right to view your lesson plans. After reviewing all materials you created in preparation and a possible interview, we determine if the preparation time logged is appropriate or if it should be adjusted based on length, amount, and quality of material. We generally do not award more than 2 hours of preparation time. You will retain copyright over your plans. 

--- Any orientation, training and meeting times will also be counted toward your volunteer time. Please enter the event name, date, and duration. Please be aware preparation time is not applicable to this circumstance (ex: New faculty online orientation, 4/21/2010, 1 hour). 

--- We will send certificates of verified volunteer hours and complete volunteer forms (SSL, NHS, etc.) upon request.

DC Central Kitchen volunteers work alongside our devoted front-line staff and Culinary Job Training students to cut, chop, peel, and prep fresh produce as we prepare balanced meals for our community. The Bethesda Chevy-Chase Rescue Squad (BCCRS) operates a Junior Member program to provide teenagers an eye-opening, developmental opportunity to be part of the fire and EMS community, respond to 911 emergencies, and provide assistance based on their level of training and maturity.  The BCCRS junior members will participate in vocational training courses that certify them as an Emergency Medical Technician or Firefighter.  They will be exposed to a professional environment with high service expectations where they will be expected to work side-by-side with adult members.  They will be exposed to 911 calls ranging from the mundane to life-saving events.  We know this provides an unparalleled growth opportunity to develop critical thinking and life-skills for the right teenager.  It is not for everyone.  Teenagers who are involved in highly competitive sports programs with inflexible requirements or have extensive extra-curricular activities which either the teen or parent judges are a higher priority than BCCRS membership and training requirements are not be a good fit for our program.  All training is provided free of charge and may occur at various locations including the Public Services Training Academy near the Montgomery County Airpark.

In order to begin volunteering at the BCCRS, you need to be at least 16. If you are between 16 and 18 years old, you are considered a Junior Member. Requirements for Junior Members are somewhat different than for someone who joins at 18, but you will be able to progress through EMT class and Firefighter 1 and 2 for those who want to learn firefighter and technical rescue skills before turning 18.

Each Sunday between the hours of 11am to 4pm, our volunteers pack bags of non-perishables and add bread, produce, pastries, soups etc to bags for Montgomery county families that have put in a request for food assistance to pick up.

Piano Pals® for Seniors-   Private mentoring for a senior living in an assisted living facility.  

The High School student schedules a piano lesson on a weekly or bi-weekly basis with an interested senior.  The lessons begin anywhere from the beginner level to the level where the senior is.  If a beginner, the teen uses Piano for Adult Beginners provided by Faber Piano Adventures.   If the senior student has played, the teen brings materials that are meaningful to the senior.  

Piano lessons are great platforms for seniors to connect with a youth.  Present and past are conjoined through the music that is studied and the conversation that inevitably unfolds.  A relationship is forged through the attention of a teen who is knowledgeable in music and eager to learn from the senior about history, family, culture, and the aging brain. The senior has time.  

These sessions will be under supervision of an adult volunteer on the premises.  Scheduled by the Activity Director of the assisted living facility.

1 hour ssl credit for mentors per class.   SSL Hours are logged and approved by the Assisted Living staff at the facility if you are under the staff's supervision there.  If Tacy Foundation staff are present at all times and only when TF staff are onsite, you may log your hours with the foundation.

Montgomery Parks can be a great place for you to do your Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award projects!

Although sometimes Park Staff have projects in mind, the number of applicants far outnumbers them. It is often up to the scout to find a suitable project. We suggest you choose a park location that is convenient to you and explore the area to see what amenities you can help create or restore. 

Park staff will work with you to review your project proposal prior to approval.  The scout will then be responsible for good communication with Park Staff, and completing the project in a timely manner.

The JCA Samuel J. Gorlitz Kensington Clubs at Germantown is a 4-HOUR social club designed for older adults in the early stage of memory loss between 9:30-1:30pm on Mondays and Thursdays. Experienced staff and volunteers help provide social activities to Club members. Club members are independent with walking and all personal cares. They participate in group games, exercise, art therapy, music therapy, and discussion and then return home again after four hours. Weekly volunteers are needed to assist the manager and activity leader. The club location is at the Germantown Community Center --18905 Kingsview Rd. Germantown, MD 20874

The JCA Samuel J. Gorlitz Kensington Club in Rockville is a social club designed for seniors in the early stage of memory loss. 

The Kensington Club@Parklawn on the JCA Headquarters Terrace has a large patio with raised flower beds and patio furniture. We are in search of 1-2 summer volunteers from June 1 to September 1(end date flexible), who are interested in horticulture and could provide regular care to patio plants at least one day per week, about 1-4 hours per week. Volunteer can take care of plants on Tuesdays or Thursdays anytime between 8-6pm. Student to communicate all lengthy and scheduled absences to supervisor to arrange coverage during this absence. Hours can vary during summer as long as mutually agreed upon between volunteer and supervisor. Orientation will be provided. The student must possess self-motivation, good judgement, good communication, and reliability to maintain this summer commitment to keep plants alive and thriving for the seniors in this day program. 

This is a wonderful opportunity for volunteers who seek flex hours but who enjoy working with plants and providing an independent, indirect service to program for seniors with dementia.  

*For students, there is a potential for 20-30 SSL hours for a 8 week summer commitment. July 1 - September 1, 2023 (negotiable).

The Middle Eastern American Advisory Group  (MEAAG) is one of the ethnic advisory groups organized by the county's Office of Community Partnerships (OCP). MEAAG's mission is to embrace, bridge, and contribute to equity among our diverse communities. Our current members are immigrants or descendants of immigrants from around the broader Middle East, as well as Pakistan, and we are seeking wider representation of southwest Asian heritage. 

MEAAG's tasks include liaison with the County Executive and OCP Director on the needs and concerns of Middle Eastern Americans living and/or working in Montgomery County, including but not limited to advice regarding policy initiatives, budget priorities, economic and other partnership opportunities, and implementation of programs. MEAAG helps educate and bridge ME communities with the non-profit organizations and grant opportunities that are available in the county, e.g., availability of halal meat in MCPS cafeterias, education about Islamic holidays and culture, senior citizen services, and culturally appropriate music and arts programs via Strathmore, Sandy Spring Museum, the libraries and other organizations. We are driven by our communities' needs, from small business development to access to health care, and our members' skills and networks, and we welcome members with knowledge of graphic arts, ME performing arts, and other related skills. 

The first Saturday of every month from 7:45 a.m.-10:45 a.m. Clifton Park Baptist Church (CBPC) serves the surrounding community through its Project Neighbor Care (PNC) program. Through PNC, residents receive groceries donated through the Capital Area Food Bank, obtain clothing from the CPBC clothes closet, request special prayer, and receive information on additional community resources.  

No Need to register, just show up! Distribution will be outside unless it is raining.

Got cat food?  The Montgomery County Community Cat Coalition is a non-profit, all volunteer organization which works to find humane and effective solutions to help community cats -- outside cats living in colonies managed by caretakers. One of our projects is to collect and distribute cat food to community cat colony caretakers on a quarterly basis. All the food we distribute is donated or bought with donated funds. We are seeking volunteers to collect cat food from retail stores or to hold cat food drives at their school, church, etc.!  We also welcome volunteer help on the day of the cat food distribution to the colony caretakers. Support families overcoming homelessness and give back to your local community! This opportunity provides a meaningful way for volunteers to make a difference in the lives of young people and their families experiencing homelessness.

Help lead fun activities during Fam-Club with the residents at The Triumph on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday nights! The Triumph is our short-term family housing site in Ward 8, Washington, DC. 

Fam-Club Volunteers will: Facilitate activities including arts & crafts, games, and playtime for residents of all ages. Help with setup and cleanup of Fam-Club activity room.
