5- Quality: Content must be clear, error-free, with consistent formatting.

6- Verification: Submit SSL form with supervisor approval and link/screenshot of the post.

FourNineFive Legacy Volleyball Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the goal growing boys volleyball by affording players from families with limited financial resources opportunities to play.  We are looking for student volunteers to serve as Marketing & Social Media Managers to help develop social media marketing content and campaigns to increase visibility, engagement, and community involvement. This internship is designed specifically for students eager to explore the world of media production, content creation, social media, communications or marketing.

Responsibilities:

Assist in the production of multimedia content such as videos and social media posts.

Participate in brainstorming sessions for content ideas and campaign strategies.

Help with editing tasks for videos and audio content.

Support the social media team in content scheduling and community engagement efforts.

Qualifications:

A qualified candidate has excellent communication skills, is technology savvy, can work independently, and interested in working for a 501c3 nonprofit. Candidates must have access to a computer and reliable internet access. Must be proficient in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Knowledge of social media eg Facebook, Twitter/X, Linked In and Instagram plus blogs and other communication platforms, a plus.

Familiarity with the sport of volleyball.

Comfort working or learning Google Suite including: Google Docs, Forms etc. This role is best for a very creative self-starter who has ability and initiative to work independently from home.

We will award SSL hours according to the following equivalency:

1 marketing collateral created (e.g., flyer, brochure, etc.) = 2 SSL hours

1 social media post = 1 hour

1 marketing video created = 4 SSL hours

Volunteers will also attend check-in meetings with our core team through a virtual platform (Google Meet) using their personal/private accounts and SSL hours will also be granted for meetings (1 meeting hour = 1 SSL hour). Volunteers at the City of Gaithersburg's Skate Park will be assigned to one of two volunteer placements: a volunteer attendant position or a volunteer skateboard instructor position. The volunteer attendant is responsible for assisting the staff with the overall supervision of the skaters to ensure the safety of the program participants and the safe operations of the facility. Volunteer attendants will assist the staff in daily cleaning and maintenance of the facility, greeting customers, organizing supplies and equipment and helping with program activities. The other position, the volunteer skateboard instructor, supports the staff in teaching youth participants how to safely learn new skateboarding skills in a formal group setting. Volunteer instructors are responsible for coaching, mentoring and providing guidance to program participants to help them build confidence in their skating ability. Volunteer instructors are required to provide verbal instructions as well as to demonstrate skateboarding techniques. Volunteers are selected through an interview process and must be at least 14 years old or have completed 8th grade at the time of their interview in order to be considered for a placement. Lastly, volunteers must have their parents sign a Skate Park waiver form before their first day of service.

Small Things Matter's Crafting for Charity Program helps those in need with handmade items.  We are looking for volunteers to help us decorate bookmarks as part of our literacy program for underserved children.  We provide them with a choice of a brand new book and they also get to pick a handmade bookmark of their choice.  Encouraging a lifelong love of reading can help these children succeed in school and in life. We would love to have individuals and groups help us by decorating bookmarks.

Middle school and high school students are eligible to earn SSL hours by decorating bookmarks.

5 decorated bookmarks = 1 SSL hour of service.

Limit of 50 bookmarks.

Do not punch holes at the top of the bookmarks if you are making them.

-Please document your bookmark decorating by taking an action shot photo of them being made and a group shot of the finished items once you've finished decorating them!

-Decorate the bookmarks either by using markers, stickers, paints, etc.  Please do not include anything religious in either written words or pictures.  Do NOT sign the bookmarks with your name, etc. Take a group shot of the finished items.

-Make a log by write down the number of bookmarks made, and have your parent date and initial it.

Four Seasons Dancers is a non-profit dance troupe performing global-inspired dance programs in the Maryland/DC/Virginia area in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, community events, local festivals, rehabilitation centers and other organization.

Criteria:
Our junior troupe is for students who are at least 12 years of age, currently taking dance or who have prior dance/gymnastics training and who love to perform. All students interested in being a part of the troupe must audition.

Auditions  start in AUGUST/SEPTEMBER (Gaithersburg, MD ) 

JUNIOR TROUPE INFORMATION: Costumes (for performances) will be lent to each dancer at no charge. To prepare for our programs, dancers will attend a weekly class regularly and enroll in our semester beginning September, 2025. Additional rehearsals during the week may be scheduled in preparation for performances. The Finance Department also periodically handles financial planning, budget review, and fundraising planning for the chapter.

Miracle League Buddies are volunteers ranging in age from elementary school to senior citizens.  These include family members, individuals, and local youth and civic groups.  All Buddies are expected to demonstrate appropriate maturity, and to exhibit sensitivity and good judgment when interacting with Players.”  Many people refer to the Buddy volunteers as “Angels in the Outfield.”   Buddies can bring their own equipment but that is not required. What is required is to provide smiles and laughter to the Miracle League Players.

The minimum age for a Buddy is 13.  All Buddies are expected to demonstrate appropriate maturity, and to exhibit sensitivity and good judgment when interacting with Players.  The goals for Miracle League Buddies are:

We have volunteer opportunities in the Fall and Spring seasons on Saturday and Sunday.

Got a group that wants to volunteer? 

KEEN has opportunities on the weekends from September through June. In Montgomery County, those opportunities are mostly on Sundays at KEEN Sports for Kids, Teens or Young Adults. (Ask about other opportunities as well.) 

During KEEN's Sports Programs, athletes (KEEN's young people with disabilities, ages 5-25) and volunteers come together for one-to-one activities in a group setting. Together they do individual activities that are tailored solely to the needs of the athlete. They may throw a basketball or kick a soccer ball, or they may take a walk around the outdoor track. Many love to bounce on 36" balls or be pulled along the floor on a flat wheeled scooter. A group may form for Duck, Duck, Goose. The session ends with everyone coming together in a circle (although some athletes still need to run around its periphery, and that's okay) and sharing with the group what they did that day "that made them very Proud." They literally go out dancing: the Hokey Pokey for the younger kids and the Macarena for the teens and young adults. Athletes burn energy, meet and interact with new volunteers, see old friends, and then rejoin their parents, who have had some precious respite time. The farm at Cedar Ridge is a little over half an acre of vegetable and fruit crops, tended by volunteers from our church community and the surrounding neighborhood. Each year we grow about 2 tons of organic food, which is distributed to people in need, in collaboration with Manna Food Center. Although Maryland is the wealthiest state in the US as measured by median household income (and Montgomery County is the second wealthiest county in Maryland), poverty and hunger are widespread and growing problems.

We welcome all kinds of community involvement! We love having people of all ages and abilities volunteer at times that work for them. We have hosted groups from schools, businesses, organizations working with people with developmental challenges, scout troops, and various faith communities. 

Regular work hours are Thursdays 6-8 p.m. and Sundays 9-11 a.m.

Birthday Cakes 4 Free Maryland (BC4F) is a nonprofit organization that collects and delivers birthday cakes to financially and socially disadvantaged children and seniors. We are an entirely student run organization!

Anyone can become a volunteer! There is no minimum age requirement. This is a great way to start earning SSL hours in middle school. 

Students bake cakes in their homes. Cakes must meet the container guidelines which are outlined on www.bc4f.org. The decoration/flavor/design of your cake(s) is up to you but we would prefer if you could write “Happy Birthday!” on your cake(s). You can make a cake from a cake mix or your favorite recipe. Round, square or rectangle cakes are all okay as long as they are individually and securely boxed, with lids taped for transport. Round cakes must have multiple layers. Single layer 9" round cakes will not earn SSL hours. We also accept cupcakes. Twenty-four cupcakes are equivalent to one cake. Cake requirements are posted on our website.  We do not accept pies or alternative baked goods. ALL decorations MUST be edible. https://www.bc4f.org/faq

Volunteer to pack bags of fresh produce on WEDNESDAYS (10:00AM – 2:30PM) for partner distributions within the community. Volunteers should wear comfortable attire, be able to stand for 2-3 hours and be able to lift and move 10-15 pounds repeatedly. Specific instructions provided upon arrival.

Heart pillows are ideal for those who received surgical procedures near the underarm, and can act as a protective barrier between sensitive areas and the car seatbelt. Volunteers may choose to make sewn or crocheted heart-shaped pillows to show patients that we care!

NOTE: We do NOT accept no-sew pillows.

We welcome unisex colors and patterns (NO holiday or religious patterns, as noted in our project guidelines) and recommend a size of 9 x 9 inches, using cotton fabric for sewn pillows. For the safety of our recipients, please use new and unused materials.Please do not superglue pillows. Pillows must be sewn following the tutorials below, without stuffing coming out. Warrior Canine Connection is a non-profit organization which breeds, raises and trains dogs with the assistance of Veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), or mobility issues. These dogs are eventually placed as service dogs for Wounded Warriors, military family support dogs, or facility dogs for Veteran Organizations. We are actively seeking volunteers to serve as Puppy Parents for future service dogs in training and would love for Montgomery County youth to co-raise with their parent or guardian.

For the duration of their training, WCC pups live in Puppy Raiser's homes. In addition to any training the dogs do with Warriors, they are constantly working on their skills in a home environment and at training sessions at WCC. 

Puppy Raisers train our service dogs for 4 to 20 months before the dogs graduate and are placed with their forever Veteran. Each puppy goes home with his or her Puppy Parent between the ages of 8-12 weeks. As a youth co-raiser, you can earn 1 SSL hour for each day that you have the dog and take an active role in its training and healthcare (This is not a dog fostering program).  In order to demonstrate this you must attend weekly trainings, complete monthly progress reports, submit the daily reflective journal every 12 weeks, and bring your dog to Head Quarters in Germantown when necessary.  If not all parts are completed, the student will only earn a portion of the hours based on their involvement.  This is a big responsibility, but it will be so rewarding.  Not only can you earn SSL hours, but you will be serving the Veteran community, learning how to train a dog, and this experience will look amazing on college resumes.

Interfaith Works Becky's House is a home that provide permanent housing, 24-hour oversight, and intensive case management services to 8 senior women with behavioral health diagnoses.

We are looking for volunteers to prepare meals for the 8 clients at the IW Becky's House, located at 13023 Parkland Dr., Rockville, MD 20853. Meals need to be dropped off at the following times (please note you can drop off meals earlier):

· Breakfast: 9:00-10:00 am

· Lunch: 1:00-2:00 pm

· Dinner: 5:00-6:00 pm

You can sign up for dates to provide meals here.

Students can earn 2 SSL hours for making homemade meals (not for store-bought or purchased items).  

If you are interested in providing a meal to our clients and would like to serve we can have up to 5 volunteers. Masks are required for all volunteers along with a temperature and symptom upon arrival. Breakfast is drop off only. Students can also earn SSL hours for the time spent serving meals outside of school hours. Please let us know at least one week in advance if you'd like to serve the meal.

If you're dropping off meals, please label the containers with the ingredients so our clients with dietary restrictions can be aware. When you arrive, you can either call our front staff at 301-933-2477 or come to the front door with your food.

Hughes United Methodist Church serves as one of seven Montgomery County Consolidated Services Hubs delivering food assistance and other vital services to a growing number of Mid County residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since March 2020, Hughes has provided more than 900,000 pounds of free groceries to 36,000 households. The needs continue to grow and we appreciate your interest.

ENERGETIC VOLUNTEERS are needed to help distribute food, they are assigned a station in which they will help our clients to classify the food they require. The activity takes place indoors and involves standing for at least 2 hours and lifting up to 35 pounds. Volunteers must dress accordingly.

Volunteers will be tasked with researching nonprofits, schools, and community organizations in the DMV. As we collaborate with these organizations, we are learning about the services they provide, volunteer opportunities available, and vital resources to share with people in need. Volunteers will research the organizations, their contact info, and basic information about their projects.

Another virtual research opportunity involves policy reforms in the DMV. As we  strive to defend human rights, we are learning about organizations that are involved in the industry. Volunteers will research organizations involved in policy-making and the programs they implement to help the community.

These virtual volunteer opportunities will be hosted by a supervisor, so they will earn hour-for-hour the time they are serving.

Additional information for volunteers:

- A student's parent/guarding must provide the nonprofit with written approval of the student's participation in the virtual platform prior to the student serving/volunteering.

- Students must use personal/private accounts (not MCPS student accounts) to engage in the virtual platform.

Distribute boxes of food, including fruit, vegetables and canned goods, to low income senior citizens at AHC's Charter House, an affordable housing apartment building located in Silver Spring. Volunteers will bring food inside building to 2nd floor lobby using carts & elevators. Residents will pick up food boxes.

Volunteers should be friendly and reliable, able to work in a small group and independently. Food boxes weigh between 20-40 pounds so volunteers must be able to lift that amount onto tables & carts.

Help craft soft, colorful amigurumi creatures for patients undergoing cancer treatments. These thoughtful gifts not only brighten the patients' days but also serve as a symbol of care and encouragement during a challenging time. Please feel free to add keychains to the mini crochet creatures!

As of August 11, 2023, we ONLY accept decorated store-bought journals for service hours, but not composition notebooks. Reach’s LOP is seeking volunteers to help school-aged children with their homework and other educational activities and serve them snacks (under the direct supervision of a childcare staff person). Must be 14+ years old.

BECA is seeking Summer Camp Counselors for our annual Summer Camp, a summer bridge program for 1st – 6th-grade students from our partner schools, San Jeronimo Bilingual School and Santa Monica Bilingual School, in Honduras.

For interested volunteers who are not available during our summer camp weeks, we offer similar service learning volunteer opportunities for small groups - including student groups, families, and other organizations/companies.

The three-week summer camp (that happens annually - typically the last week of June through the first two weeks of July) includes fun games, activities, and literacy and math enrichment. The camp contributes to preventing summer learning loss and offers BECA's students an enriching opportunity during a time when many of their peers are still in school (public schools in Honduras operate on a February - November schedule). Our camp counselors and Counselors in Training learn just as much as our students do and have just as much fun too. 

Our counselors are a wonderfully varied group - including recent high school graduates, current college students on summer vacation, educators looking for service learning summer opportunities, and even retirees from all over the world. 

All Summer Camp Counselors (and other service learning volunteers) connect with the BECA team and each other via email and two onboarding video calls prior to coming to Honduras to discuss the following:

packing/arriving in-country

brainstorming the summer camp theme

lesson planning topics for reading & writing, arts & crafts, and physical education

We kick off with a 3-4 day orientation in-country (shorter for shorter experiences)

Summer Camp runs 8:00 am – 12:00 pm, Monday through Friday

In the afternoons, the team is busy completing a service project, participating in a reflection series, going on home visits, or participating in team bonding activities

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Because the Summer Camp is a supplemental program, BECA recoups the program’s expenses through donations paid by Summer Camp Counselors and CITs. We ask that you contribute or fundraise $1,500 for the BECA program to help defray costs (staff support, food, accommodation, and training). A limited number of reduced contribution slots may be available. If you are interested in a service learning experience for your group, we are happy to discuss a fee structure that makes sense for all. We can also help groups/individuals set up a fundraising page using our networkforgood platform.

For current college students and educators, please note that volunteers in the past have successfully applied for on-campus grant monies or local grant opportunities to cover this expense and travel. We encourage you to explore what opportunities your college/community offers to subsidize summer experiences. Please contact us if you have any questions; we will try to help you in any way possible.

The Takoma Park Food Pantry is a food pantry located in Takoma Park, MD. We are operated by almost all volunteers.

EduCare is serving more people during the pandemic as well. Right now, we are serving 250 families a month, or about 385 people.

(About) 75% of our food comes from USDA, the rest is purchased from local retailers and donated by individuals.

We are supported by grants from Montgomery County, City of Takoma Park,  private individuals and families, community organizations and corporations.

• The work is physical and you should be comfortable standing for a couple of hours; you will engage in some light to moderate lifting (up to 25 pounds) as well as bending and reaching.

It is thanks to the work of the hundreds of thousands of Anacostia Watershed Society volunteers through the years that the river has improved. Our volunteers restore wetlands, plant native plants, collect seeds, and help with many other projects - often times pieces of larger plans that make a big impact on the river. Volunteers are invited to knit, sew or crochet at home to make blankets as gifts for hospitalized children. Volunteers are also welcome to come pick up supplies, stay and make blankets in a group setting, and/or drop off your completed blanket on days when we are meeting in person. Meetings are held in the lower level of the University of Maryland extension office, Montgomery County Agricultural History Farm Park, 18410 Muncaster Road, Derwood. Our next meeting is Tuesday 30 September 2025, drop in between 10am and 3pm.

Jeanne Purich is the person who signs SSL forms. Students should contact her before they begin work at home on their blankets and email her photos of work in progress, so that she can mentor them along the way. Jeanne Purich may be emailed at jcpurich@cs.com.

(1) Music Videos for hospitals. The Tacy Foundation receives video recordings from volunteers for hospitals and seniors in the metropolitan area of Washington/Baltimore/Wilmington/Philadelphia/New York City, the Northeast corridor. The YouTube playlists are also sent nationwide to Fisher Houses and hospitals wherever requested.  Children are invited to participate in the recording and distribution for these musical gifts. The Foundation is dedicated to sending sounds of hope and healing through music.  1 hour of SSL Credit per video.  Songs must be at least late elementary/intermediate level and range from 3 to 10 minutes in length.). Public Domain status or written permission from the publisher are required.

This is an ongoing project.  Contact The Tacy Foundation for opportunities. Videos are uploaded on the Foundation's YouTube Playlist. Each year over 300 videos are placed on a new playlist for the purpose of sending hope and healing into the communities. Thanks to technology, the music videos are placed on QR code Cards with contact information for the recipients.  This makes for easy shipping along with handmade greeting cards from volunteers. 

(2) The Tacy Foundation sponsors live music performances at NIH Clinical Research Center's Hall of Hope & Seniors Centers, and acts as liaison for American Red Cross Teen Pianists at Walter Reed-Bethesda Lobby of the America Building.   (2.0 hours of ssl credit per concert.)

(3) The Tacy Foundation sponsors Piano Pals, an internship program for teen pianists to mentor elementary school children who cannot afford music lessons at some elementary public schools' aftercare programs in Montgomery County, MD.  (1.5 hours  of SSL credit per session)

(4) The Reading Express brings a story to life through children's books. Volunteers are needed to supervise craft tables at the library and help with cleanup following the event. Playing an instrument is required for recording music and participation in live concerts. Playing an instrument, organizing lesson material and communicating with children, a congenial outgoing personality, compassion for younger children, and dependability are required for the internship/mentor in the Piano Pals Program.  (1 hour of SSL Credit per book)

Please note the following guidelines for student service through live virtual platforms:

A student’s parent/guardian must provide the nonprofit with written approval of the student’s participation in the virtual platform prior to the student serving/volunteering.

Students must use personal/private accounts (not MCPS student accounts) to engage in the virtual platform.

Students will only engage with others under the direct supervision of a nonprofit supervisor. The nonprofit supervisor will be directly present in the virtual space (including any breakout sessions) at all times.

The nonprofit supervisor will initiate and host all virtual sessions. If the nonprofit supervisor is not available to initiate and host the virtual session, the session will not occur.

Virtual sessions will not be recorded.

Students should not share or upload any videos, pictures, or images of themselves, unless the nonprofit organization has obtained a signed form/waiver from the student’s parent/guardian authorizing permission/release.

Students’ email addresses/home addresses or any personally identifying information will remain protected and not shared.

1⁄2 hour ssl credit per half hour class after the composition is included on the foundation's YouTube playlist for hospitals.

5. Piano Pals® Training for Elementary School Children in Title 1
Schools: For Grades 3-5. This online class serves as preparation for mentoring when schools open and children will attend the afterschool program. Should schools be closed to afterschool activities, these classes will resume until schools open.
1 hour of ssl credit per class attended.

6. Piano Pals for ES Children:  Brown Station ES (weekday after school), Clopper Mill ES (weekday after school), Fox Chapel ES (weekday after school). Gaithersburg ES (weekday after school), and Tanglewood Apartments HOC in Silver Spring (Saturday Mornings) will continue Piano Pals afterschool programs in 2025.    Contact: thetacyfoundation@gmail.com for information and an application.

7. Guitar Pals for ES Children: 2025 continuing in 2nd semester (See No. 7 for schools participating.)

NEW: Life Stories:  Interview Seniors to learn their impactful life stories.  Pass down their treasure of personal struggle and victory as well as those issues of history that are not in the history lessons at school.   See and write about how their lives impact us now.  Find out how they are impacted by the youth and music/story of Tacy Foundation volunteers. Write an article or story for the Newsletter about your discoveries. 300 words minimum.  Look for suggestions from Tacy Foundation Newsletter Chief Editor in the September Newsletter.

14. All Live Music Events will be sent out via Signup.com. The date and time and location of the event will be given on the invitation. Each child/teen who signs up will be notified 2 days prior to the event. The Chief Intern of each event will take the parents’ emails, time of arrival and departure to send to ssl.tacy@gmail.com.

Volunteers will pack Weekend Smart Sack Bags Weekly for Children's Nutrition and Education.

The event will be held once a week for 2 hours at Cabin John Local Park Picnic Shelter. This is a recurring volunteer opportunity. We are looking for passionate volunteers who can commit to this program through the School Year ending in June 2025. The schedule for the weekly volunteering events will be published in December 2024.

This is a free, 5-hour interactive course that puts the participant in the role of a provider in a post-disaster scene. This course is for individuals new to disaster response who want to learn the core goals of PFA, as well as for seasoned practitioners who want a review. It features innovative activities, video demonstrations, and mentor tips from the nation’s trauma experts and survivors. PFA online also offers a Learning Community where participants can share about experiences using PFA in the field, receive guidance during times of disaster, and obtain additional resources and training.

Participants open a learning account at Psychological First Aid (PFA) Online | The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (nctsn.org)

The course can be completed in small blocks of time or as time permits.

Upon completion of the course and passing the exam, participants are provided with a certificate of completion of the PFA Course that they must email to pandreasonmd@gmail.com to receive 5 SSL hours.

A completed and signed SSL certificate (form 560-61) will be provided via email after receipt of the PFA Certificate of completion. 

The Course is supported by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and is widely recognized by the disaster response community.

For participants who have completed this course and wish to be involved in a PFA trained response team, this site will provide other opportunities, as needs arise.

Community Reach of Montgomery County's Senior Reach Program seeks volunteers to assist seniors with using and/or troubleshooting technical issues with their mobile devices at Victory Court Senior Apartments in Rockville on Tuesdays from noon to 2:00 p.m. Proficiency in using various types of mobile devices and software is preferred. Experience working with seniors is also preferred.

Occasionally, Child Welfare Services need assistance with making folders, checking information inside folders, photocopying, putting together packets, filing and very light secretarial duties as needed. Individuals will be exposed to case sensitive information and must be willing to sign a confidentiality waiver form. Great for teenagers but not limited to teenagers.

Volunteers will work alongside supervisory staff on tasks that include ushering at theatrical performances and family arts events; assisting InterAct staff and other volunteers with conducting arts activities with children and adults before shows; and assisting with logistics at InterAct Story Theatre events. Most events take place in Wheaton as part of the Wheaton Family Theatre Series, but specific locations can vary. Interested volunteers become part of our mailing list as opportunities arise, as events are held monthly.
