NOTE: We are restricting the gathering to 20 students. Parents may attend, but please do not take a volunteer space meant for the students. Deadline to respond is Thursday, November 7th. If you know you can no longer attend, you are required to remove yourself so another student gets an opportunity. Failure to show up on the day of the event will bar you from future events.
Volunteers will meet at Chapel (on the grounds) at 10:00 a.m. to be given instructions regarding the placement of flags on grave sites of our military veterans. We have almost 500 veterans buried at Monocacy Cemetery.
We will gather in groups of about 3 volunteers per section, each would walk the assigned cemetery section to place the flags.
We estimate 2 working hours for this event. All ages welcome, from 6th grade up. Hilly, rough ground must be traversed. Dress appropriately for weather of the day. We will place flags rain or shine.
SSL students will be required to write a descriptive paragraph about this event on their SSL form, which each student must bring with them or they may use the pre-filled forms that will be available at the cemetery.
Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
