Description


Help preserve the story of one of Maryland’s oldest African-American communities on December 29, 2025 from 9:00am-12:00pm and/or 1:00pm-5:00pm! Founded in 1883 by emancipated people, Prathertown is proud of its deep roots and cultural legacy. We’re seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help organize and catalog our collection of vinyl records, photos, and cassette tapes that capture decades of local history.

Volunteer Activities:

  • Listen to, sort, and clean historic vinyl records, cassette tapes and 8mm film

  • Catalog artifacts in our database for public access

  • Organize and safely store items using archival-quality materials

This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in archiving and historical preservation while contributing to your community!

Important Details:
Some tasks may involve standing, kneeling, and light lifting. All materials and instructions will be provided by our team. Please bring your own lunch and water. Break time will be included.

Requirements: Volunteers must be detail oriented, enthusiastic, and possess technology skills. Must be proficient in Google Suite or Office 365.

Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours in a public space under direct supervision of the nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
