Volunteer-Office/Program Coordinator:   The mission of the Montgomery County Police Department’s Keeping Seniors Safe (KSS) outreach program is to educate senior groups on ways to prevent fraud, scams, and identity theft. Our speakers also focus on how to stay safe at home, when out shopping, and to provide tips on emergency preparedness.   We seek an organized individual to serve as the primary liaison to a friendly team of volunteer KSS presenters to handle requests for presentations via telephone and email while maintaining a detailed group calendar of scheduled events. We would look to you for creative ideas on how to market the KSS program when reaching out to community recreation centers, senior living facilities and faith communities who might benefit from free speakers to educate senior audiences. We also need you to order brochures on safety-related topics and to keep them well-stocked and neatly displayed in the Volunteer Resources Office. The Program Coordinator will also collect and compile data which will be used to document the outcome of this important MCPD community outreach program. VOLUNTEER APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum age - 16. Successfully pass background check. Ability to volunteer a minimum of eight hours per week or 6 months in the program. Ability to participate in bi-weekly training that is designed to enhance interns exposure to a variety of aspects of law enforcement. Be a U.S. citizen. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you must have a valid green card.  

Hybrid works schedule is possible with this position.

Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian  and must be completed outside of school hours. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns. 

We are currently in search of an intern/volunteer with experience in Social Media Support. 

social media platform experience (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) familiarity with law enforcement preferred

SOCIAL MEDIA VOLUNTEER APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS: Minimum age of 18. Successfully pass background check. Ability to volunteer a minimum of eight hours per week or 6 months in the program. 2 to 4 hours/week; during normal business hours Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm.

Volunteers must submit the Volunteer Application and undergo a thorough background check including a criminal history, driving history. As part of the background check, applicants are fingerprinted and interviewed.

Volunteers and interns serve with diligence, pride, and dedication, and they continue to introduce new ideas, a fresh outlook, and an invigorating spirit to our workforce. Their contributions are highly valued and greatly appreciated by the Police Department and the community it serves. Currently, our active, highly diverse volunteer corps numbers approximately 200. Volunteers are involved in nearly all aspects of the department? From station operations and training to communications. They work side by side in support of the line officers, command staff, and civilian employees. What special projects may I be involved with? Assist Police Officers with Alcohol Enforcement efforts. Assist Officers at special community events such as the County Fair and Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Monthly Ride-Along opportunity with police officers. What training opportunities are available? Officer Safety, Patrol Procedures, Police Radio Communications, Traffic Laws, Report writing including criminal and civil citations, S.W.A.T., K-9, Forensics, Homicide, Narcotics & Community Engagement.

INTERN APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS (Law Enforcement Apprentice Program L.E.A.P.) Minimum age- 16 Successfully pass background check. Ability to volunteer a minimum of eight hours per week or 6 months in the program. Ability to participate in bi-weekly training that is designed to enhance intern.  Exposure to a variety of aspects of law enforcement. Be a U.S. citizen. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you must have a valid green card.  

Interns typically work anytime Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm.

Volunteers in Policing are assigned to various units within MCPD. Those interested, must submit the Volunteer Application and undergo a thorough background check including a criminal history, driving history. As part of the background check, applicants are fingerprinted and interviewed. Training is provided once the volunteer is assigned to a specific location.
