Volunteer: Sidewalk Astronomy Events for DMV AreaTo celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of the American Bootes Astronomical Society (ABAS) and the 250th Anniversary of the United States, we will host three free Sidewalk Astronomy Events in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia in June 2026. Families, students, and community members throughout the DMV area are warmly invited to join us for an evening of telescope observing and astronomy outreach.
Join the American Bootes Astronomical Society (ABAS) and help inspire the next generation of explorers! We are recruiting volunteers for all three Sidewalk Astronomy Events. Volunteer opportunities include: • Telescope Setup & Operation • Public Outreach & Visitor Assistance • Astronomy Education & STEM Activities • Photography & Videography • Event Coordination & Logistics • Social Media & Community Engagement No astronomy experience required. Training will be provided. Community Service Hours Available for Middle School, High School, and College Students. Scan the Volunteer QR Code to Join Our Team! Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours in a public space under direct supervision of the nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
