As Treasurer for the rescue, your day centers around making sure the organization’s finances are accurate, transparent, and aligned with its mission. You might begin by reviewing recent donations, reconciling them against bank statements, and ensuring expenses—like vet bills, transport costs, and supplies—are properly categorized. You’ll update the budget as needed and prepare regular reports for leadership and the board, helping guide financial decisions with clear, data-driven insight. The Miracle League of Montgomery county is seeking qualified members to join its Board of Directors. Our Board of Directors meet virtually on a bi-monthly basis for approximately 90 minutes. Our typical meeting agenda covers: review of baseball operations, fundraising initiatives, financial reports, recruiting of players, coaches and volunteers, various administrative tasks and issues. We are seeking Board members who also can be active volunteers for our mission-as game day volunteers, fundraisers, recruiters, event ambassadors, ect. Prospective Board members should have some experience with youth sports, a sensitivity and preferably some experience with children having physical and/or cognitive disabilities, and sufficient time to devote to their duties as a Board member. Our field is located in Germantown, MD and games are played on Saturday and Sunday in the Spring and Fall season (about 8 - 10 games each) 

Opportunity Title: Interpretation Support (Senegalese Wolof to English and English to Senegalese Wolof)

Opportunity Description: We are looking for a fully bilingual English & Senegalese Wolof speaker with fluency in both languages to accompany one of our clients and attorneys to an upcoming ICE appointment in Baltimore, MD, where would support with in-person interpretation. The volunteer would be assisting one of our staff attorneys during their client’s ICE appointment to streamline communication during the meetings. Interpretation would be needed from both English to Senegalese Wolof and Senegalese Wolof to English. Volunteers are not required to be certified interpreters but should be completely comfortable interpreting between the two languages, and preferably having interpretation experience, whether through a formal position or volunteering.

Individuals assisting will need to join at the ICE office in Baltimore, Maryland for the single day appointment in mid-May. Opportunity Title: Grocery Store Partnership – Volunteer Driver

Opportunity Description: Volunteer will be responsible in assisting the Ayuda Social Services Team in obtaining our grocery store products for the food pantry biweekly at the same designated grocery store within 30 minutes of the office. The volunteer will be responsible for picking up the designated donations from the grocery store and bringing them to the DC office where the food pantry is. They can also assist with inventory of all the products that were received and weighing each grocery bag for reporting data, although not required.

Opportunity Title: Job Fair Assistance – Bilingual Support

Opportunity Description: We are looking for fully bilingual English-Spanish speakers to join us at our second annual job fair to assist with the event operations! This opportunity is specific to English and Spanish speakers with native/heritage fluency (preferably in both languages but at least one) to support our job fair and participants. Additional support beyond linguistic assistance from event setup and clean up (depending on shifts joining), door and event space management, registration table support, etc. will be required of individuals assisting. The Patesi Foundation is seeking passionate menstrual educators, school nurses, pediatricians, and counselors to volunteer as facilitators for our Sister Moon program. Help us educate the next generation and normalize conversations about periods! Sister Moon is a first-period empowerment experience designed to equip girls ages 8-12 with the knowledge, confidence, and support they need to navigate this important transition.

Volunteers will play a key role in delivering age-appropriate education and fostering a safe, stigma-free environment. Our first session will be on April 25th from 11:00 AM -12:30 PM. Your part will be the educational piece. That will include information on what a period is, the female anatomy, expected changes, different types of period products, and normalizing conversations about periods.

Our mission is simple yet powerful: get kids off the floor and into beds of their own. We build and deliver complete twin-size bed sets — including a frame, mattress, sheets, pillow, and blanket — to children in need.

After School Flag Football is a fun instructional activity for students in grades K-5th. Students will learn the basics of Flag Football, play fun games while interacting with their peers.

ALL VOLUNTEERS must:

Be 17 years or older and able to work independently

Be able to lift up to 25 lbs

Come dressed appropriately but comfortably — long shorts or pants, a t-shirt or long sleeve shirt/sweatshirt, and closed-toe shoes are required. Volunteers not wearing closed-toe shoes will be sent home

Please bring water to stay hydrated

Volunteer duties include, but are not limited to:

Packing food

Organizing distribution materials

Clean-up tasks

Please note: These duties may involve bending, standing for extended periods, and lifting up to 25 lbs. Volunteers must be able to comfortably meet these physical requirements.

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue has an adoption event on Sunday April 19th at the Falls Church PetSmart.

Come spend the afternoon with a Lucky Dog! We need dog handlers to hold a dog's leash during our adoption event and talk up the dog to potential adopters during the event. We also need drivers to drive Lucky Dogs to and from our adoption event. Handler check-in is at 11:15 am (dog check in starts at 11:30 am). You should plan to stay until 3:30 pm.

Making snack bags is a great family and group volunteer opportunity. You will buy or collect the supplies and then decorate and assemble the bags for our residents!

AHC has three properties in Montgomery County. The on-site Resident Services teams organize a variety of fun and educational events. Snack bags help us fight food insecurity and encourage engagement.

Snack bags are paper lunch bags filled with a small water bottle and 3 small snack items (crackers, Goldfish, chips, cookies, etc). Decorating the bags is fun but optional, use your creativity!

The active senior citizens living at Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC)'s Charter House apartment building like to exercise. We're looking for volunteers to lead weekly exercise or yoga classes. If you are an experienced teacher, wonderful. If you don't have teaching experience, you can host the class. You'll welcome residents and play an exercise video on the large screen.

Classes held in the early evening (sometime between 5-6:30pm) have been well-attended. We've also hosted morning classes in the past.

This is a Tamarack Triangle Community event combining a morning Health Fair from 10:00 - 12:30 pm and an afternoon Block Party from 12:00 - 3:00 pm. It will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Page Elementary School at 13400 Tamarack Rd. Silver Spring, MD 20904. We need volunteers to help monitor game participants, help with set up and clean up and a variety of other tasks on event day.

Party in the Park is a beloved Olney Days tradition that brings the entire community together to celebrate the town. This year there will be a Sports Center - a 10 ft by 20 ft inflatable that has 6 different activities:  Axe throwing, baseball, soccer, football, archery, and basketball.  

This volunteer opportunity is to assist with collecting tickets and overseeing the play at the Sports Center.  Only 10-12 people will be at the Sports Center at any one time.  Volunteer must be able to stand/walk around and be comfortable instructing and correcting others. Volunteer will help people to understand how to play, watch the equipment (balls, "axes", bows & "arrows"), and ensure everyone is playing safely. 

There are two shifts and you can sign up for both even though they overlap.

Recruiting experienced robotics instructors to teach mechanical design, hardware-focused programming, engineering documentation, and other competition-related skills. This ongoing, hands-on program emphasizes strengthening students’ practical abilities in mechanical engineering, programming, documentation, and other core areas essential for robotics competitions. Volunteer can provide his/her curriculum or learn to teach the club curriculums.

Future Link students are first-generation to college, low income, ages 18-25 and are working towards a brighter future. Our students are resilient, insightful, and motivated, and though the barriers they face threaten derailment, mentors help students process complex issues, identify solutions, and develop and implement plans so that they may realize their fullest potential. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused even greater disadvantages to our already marginalized student population, which is why our students need additional support to help navigate challenges as they attend Montgomery College, a vocational training program, work full-time, or choose to re-access their education plan.

Students enter the Future Link program through a 15-week Self-Advocacy and Career Development Seminar, after which they are matched with a mentor.  

Mentors meet the student where they are, working with them on:

Mentors become the regular point of contact with the student and the Future Link staff. In addition, Future Link provides resources as needed to support the student and mentor. For instance, if the student needs to create a budget or a LinkedIn profile and that is not the mentor's strength, a different volunteer will work with the student in that area.

Mentors attend two training sessions and a one-on-one meeting with staff before meeting their mentee. Continuous support is provided once matched with a mentee. We request an initial one-year commitment with an option to continue beyond that time frame. Mentors must be 30+ years of age, live or work in Montgomery County, Maryland and have at least five years’ work experience in their career field.

The Arc Montgomery County is hosting a disco-themed fundraising event on Saturday, April 18 from 7-10 PM and we are looking for volunteers to check in guests as they arrive. This is a ticketed event that had presales but guests will also be able to purchase a ticket at the door.

Hope Connections for Cancer Support needs volunteers for various upcoming events to help set up the day before the event and help clean up after the event. Duties include lifting, carrying, moving 6-foot tables, folding chairs, and boxes of supplies, going up and down stairs, and standing and walking for short periods of time.  The average shift is from 1-2 hours, depending on the event, and can take place both indoors and outdoors.

We are looking for volunteers to help us put together personal hygiene kits to share with the those in need in our community. 

Personal hygiene is important in feeling good about oneself and we hope these kits will help those that receive them feel cared for.

We would love to have individuals and groups supporting this effort.

We will award 1 hour of community service for each kit donated which can be used towards:

1 personal hygiene kit with a cheery note = 1 community service hour.

All items can be purchased inexpensively from the Dollar Store/Dollar Tree.  You can also reach out to your local dentist to see if they would be able to donate toothbrushes to you.

Each kit must contain these 4 items: (PLEASE NOTE ALL ITEMS SHOULD BE FULL-SIZED, NOT TRAVEL SIZE--YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT FOR TRAVEL SIZED ITEMS:

The Link Generations Teen Advisory Board Leadership Conference is Monday, June 22, 9am – 12 noon. The theme of this second annual event is Milestones Across Generations.

The purpose of the conference is to give teens the opportunity to learn about leadership skills and how to facilitate intergenerational programs. The second part of the conference will invite older adults to join the teens for intergenerational conversations, to connect with youth, and to share their expertise and words of wisdom.

We're looking for dedicated volunteers to help out around our Montgomery County Warehouse, which takes in thousand of pounds of donated food, clothing, toys, household goods, diapers and more each day. Volunteers will help with the following projects: organizing and displaying donations, helping to take inventory, cleaning and organizing our space, making grocery bags for home deliveries, helping to load and unload delivery vehicles and more! Age requirements: We accept volunteers aged 10 and older. Physical ability: While some of these tasks are physically strenuous, we have plenty of opportunities for folks that have physical limitations or other restrictions, and our warehouse is wheelchair accessible. How to prepare: Volunteers should arrive wearing closed-toed shoes and clothing they can move around in and get dirty. Please note that the heating in our warehouse is currently out of service, so please dress warmly, wearing layers and coats for your shift. Description: At our acclaimed Outdoor Food Distribution located in North Bethesda! Every Saturday So What Else provides free food to over 1,500 people in the parking lot in front of our warehouse with the help of our incredible volunteer team.

Volunteers will help with the following tasks: setting up tables, setting up tents, preparing produce, sorting produce, helping with line control, helping to direct traffic, and more. Volunteers should plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for a quick orientation. Volunteers should be able to stand for long periods, lift large boxes, and do a considerable amount of movement. Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes and clothing they can both move around in and get dirty (NO CROCS ALLOWED). This event is entirely outdoors so please dress accordingly and bring both water and a snack to your shift. This is a great opportunity for SSL hours, and children above 10 can participate as long as their parent/guardian accompanies anyone under 16.

AGE RESTRICTION: This is a great opportunity for children aged 10 and above to participate. A parent or guardian must accompany children aged 10-15, and if they arrive without one, their parent or guardian will be contacted. Volunteers aged 16 and above can participate independently without the presence of a parent or guardian.

5:30 am to 7:00 am: Volunteers will help prepare food boxes to load into cars for our drive-thru distribution and assist with traffic control.(Those participating will receive double community service hours- (NOT FOR SSL). *ONLY FOR THIS SHIFT*)

7:00 am to 11:00 am: Volunteers will help load food boxes into cars, assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

10:00 am to 1:00 pm: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes,  assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

12:00 pm to 3 PM: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes and assist with clean-up after the distribution has ended.

The Prathertown Community Development Corporation is seeking a Parking Manager to assist with our Earth Day Community Cleanup and Gardening event, we will meet on the corner of Prathertown and Wightman Road, Saturday, April 25, from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. (weather permitting).

As Parking Manager, you will help ensure smooth traffic flow, direct volunteers and visitors to designated parking areas, and provide general event support to help the day run safely and efficiently.

Prathertown’s Earth Day event brings neighbors together for a day of environmental stewardship. This event supports both the natural landscape and community pride in Prathertown, a historic Gaithersburg neighborhood founded in 1883 by emancipated people.

Vines and bushes are killing our native trees and plants. Volunteers will use clippers, saws and other hand tools to remove the invasive plants and free the trees. Participants have told us that they can hear the trees thanking them. It's an opportunity to be outside and make a difference for the environment. The activity is open to everyone. Want a delicious way to have some fun, improve your kitchen skills, learn a new recipe, make some delicious and nutritious food for your family and for others in the community AND earn SSL Hours?? On the first and third Sundays of every month, we will make a large pot of soup together!

This time around we will cook up Vegetable Soup with Pesto led by an experienced student KindSoup Chef via zoom. Join us from the comfort of your kitchen on Sunday, May 17th from 5pm-6pm.

Students can earn 1 Student Service Learning Hour for every 2 quarts of frozen soup delivered to others. There is a maximum of 10 quarts that can qualify for any given day (5 SSL hours). Most recipes render 6 quarts of soup, 3 SSL hours.

Join us in honoring Earth Day with a community cleanup and gardening in Prathertown! Together, we’ll make a hands-on difference by keeping our local environment healthy and beautiful on Saturday, April 25, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm (weather permitting). 

Spend a Saturday outdoors enjoying the fresh air, connecting with neighbors, and helping care for our planet. Participants will collect litter and recyclables along 1.5 miles Wightman Road. Students can earn SSL hours. We’ll meet at the corner of Prathertown and Wightman Road. In the morning we will be having a community cleanup, followed by sustainable gardening. We will work together to count and take photos of every bag of trash collected for a report to the Department of Transportation. You’re also welcome to bring a canned food item for our Earth Day food drive supporting local families.

Impact

Prathertown is a neighborhood in Gaithersburg originally founded in 1883 by emancipated people. It has a long and deep rooted history that is evident today in Prathertown's many artifacts and historical homes. By volunteering, you will be contributing to the health of Prathertown’s environment and reducing litter. 

By collecting and removing litter from Prathertown, the animals benefit from a cleaner, safer habitat that helps protect them from pollution, injury, and contaminated food sources.

There are several really awesome YouTube sites that provide amazing videos answering science questions and talking about the wonders of the world around us. Science is Elemental, in its work to bring science to students who might not go seek it out also wants to support their teachers, seeks to join them. We are embarking on an effort to provide fun cool videos, geared toward elementary school teachers and their students, about the science that is part of our every day world, and in our daily environments. 

If you can bring a joy for learning, a sense of humor to add a joke or two, and a willingness to write your own and critique other storyboards as we prep to make videos, this is an opportunity for you. Requirements are an interest in science, and plain English, high-clarity writing. Video experience a plus but not required. 

While this is a virtual opportunity, there may be times when you can join in the actual video filming, although it is not a requirement that you do so. Even if you wish to be present to see your storyboard come to life, there is absolutely no requirement to be on camera.

Grace Helping Hands is seeking a skilled and motivated volunteer Website Manager to oversee and maintain our nonprofit’s website. This role is ideal for adults with professional experience in web management, digital communications, or IT who are passionate about supporting our mission to provide hygiene kits to homeless women and children in our community.

Responsibilities:

Maintain and update website content to ensure accuracy and relevance.

Optimize website navigation and user experience for visitors and potential donors.

Collaborate with the GHH team to add new programs, events, and fundraising campaigns online.

Monitor website performance and recommend improvements or updates.

Support integration of online donation tools and volunteer sign-up forms.

Qualifications:

Professional experience managing websites (WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, or similar platforms preferred).

Basic knowledge of web design, SEO, and digital content management.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Passion for nonprofit work and community impact.

By volunteering as our Website Manager, you will help Grace Helping Hands reach more donors, volunteers, and partners, ultimately expanding our ability to provide hygiene kits to women and children in need across Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s Counties, Baltimore County/City and Washington DC.

TLC's exciting summer small therapeutic group programs are in search of fun, creative, and energetic volunteers. You will help our participants have a summer of fun in a variety of ways. There are exciting weekly themes, arts and crafts, yoga, music and drama and outdoor water activities on any given week. You'll engage with young children regularly and assist them in building social skills, physical strength, and improving their communication. Fun and learning are all in a day's play. Come be a part of your community and have a fantastic time this summer. We welcome volunteers who are age 16 and over. Camps run for 7 weeks. Volunteers must volunteer for a minimum of 2 full weeks (Monday-Friday), mornings, afternoons, or all day. SSL hours available. Wonderful learning opportunity for anyone interested in working with children, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, Counseling or Special Education.

Become a historian for the day! Help museum staff transcribe historical documents and make information searchable and accessible for researchers. This opportunity is appropriate for ages 13 and up.

Sessions are offered over Zoom at the following times. Volunteers may register for one or both sessions. Museum staff will attend and answer questions. 

This Transcribe-a-Thon event will focus on documents containing information about Black community members in Sandy Spring.

Transcribe-a-thon is a monthly virtual program giving students and community members an opportunity to explore Sandy Spring history and contribute to the care of our community’s historical records.

Archaeology Day gives families a chance to get a glimpse into the world of an archaeologist!

Volunteer with The Urban Studio in celebrating Montgomery County Green Fest while also connecting the community with nature in the Chesapeake Bay through art. This tabling event aims to provide nature art-themed coloring pages where families can stop by the table and color illustrations of local plants and animals.

Join us for a maintenance day at our Falmouth Road Habitat restoration project. We will be weeding and removing non-native invasives that are encroaching on the project. We provide all the necessary tools and gloves. Wear long sleeves, long pants and closed toe shoes and bring water to drink.  Under 14 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

A guided, nature-based art experience focused on exploration and fun

For SSL hours, join us in the setup and facilitation for a free, lively, exploratory pop-up workshop designed to spark imagination and creative confidence. You will help to experiment, combine materials, break small rules, and follow curiosity rather than instructions. Assist them in discovering native plants and animals, rain gardens, or neighborhood green spaces, and create unique line drawings that can be used as coloring pages or shared with others. Premade coloring pages will also be available for attendees who do not want to paint.

You will be working with kids for this volunteer opportunity since this workshop will be geared towards kids ages 6-12.

For students looking to earn SSL hours, you will be supporting the workshop facilitators in setting up, leading, and post workshop cleaning.

No prior art experience is required, and all materials are provided.

Searching for a skilled facilitator to design and lead a thoughtful, inclusive strategic planning process that gathers diverse stakeholder perspectives and helps the organization articulate clear, actionable strategic priorities and recommended next steps. Specific session design, timeline, and materials will be discussed with volunteers.

This project will help refine priorities that strengthen intergenerational programs in school readiness, workforce development, and community empowerment. Volunteers will help chart a path that reduces isolation and expands meaningful connections between children, older adults, and families.

Details will be provided during volunteer interviews. We will collaborate closely with the facilitator, share organizational context and program information, and coordinate stakeholder participation so the resulting priorities can be adopted and advanced in our next phase of growth. We have a previous strategic plan with which we are using for a jumping off point. Volunteers will work closely with the Board President and Executive Director.

Kits to Heart is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that gives curated cancer care kits to patients and their loved ones. Our mission is to bring smiles and solidarity to those affected by cancer, one kit at a time.

Our goal is to bring comfort and brightness to hospital rooms and treatment spaces—and as Madam Sew puts it, help "reduce the fear and stress associated with a hospital stay and [remind recipients] they are not defined by their illness."
