Who We Are

Story Tapestries and our world-class network of artists, educators and partners are committed to utilizing a combination of the arts, literacy strategies, STEAM and social development tools to build a sustainable multi-literate society where individuals use their voice to stand up to their inequities.  Since becoming a 501c3 in 2010, Story Tapestries has served over 660,000 individuals by collaborating with over 1,200 organizations utilizing the arts as a vehicle to increase accessibility and understanding in the academic and social realms, primarily in under-served communities. Our aim is to establish community coalitions of organizations and individuals prepared to support meaningful, long-lasting arts-based programs. These coalitions help communities design long-term programs to support improvement in such areas as school attendance and graduation rates, employment rates, housing stability, job retention, incarceration rates, and participation in community events. In addition, these coalitions achieve more intangible benefits such as creating a sense of belonging and opening communication channels that help people feel heard and understood.

What We Do

To empower, educate and engage community members to find their voice through the performing, media and visual arts. Story Tapestries combines the arts, language, and STEM with social emotional approaches to develop the whole community and create an environment where growth, innovation, collaboration, listening and learning happens. The results of these custom designed arts programs made accessible to all supports the development of successful community members Story Tapestries (ST) as a leading arts and education organization that serves the community through: 1) Professional performances in storytelling, theater, dance, spoken word and other art forms in a variety of public spaces 2) Workshops and in-depth training programs for adults and children to develop skills in various art forms, sharing how to use the performing, visual, and literary arts to develop their voice and increase their literacy, social-emotional and STEAM skills. Furthermore, we teach youth and adults to use their skills to combat any inequity they are facing in school, the community and in life.
