Who We Are
Our mission is to provide accessible and affordable mental health services to meet the individualized needs of each person.
What We Do
Willow Oak Therapy Center (formerly Affiliated Community Counselors, Inc.) was founded in 1983 to meet the mental health needs of all persons in the greater Washington metropolitan region and to provide training and supervision for newer mental health professionals. Central to our mission is offering therapy services on a reduced sliding scale fee to low-income persons. Each year, we serve more than 325 clients who vary by age, gender, occupation, income level, ethnic and cultural background. The majority of our clients live in the greater Montgomery County area. Approximately 40 percent of our clients have private insurance and 35 percent of our clients have incomes or disabilities that allow them to qualify for Medicaid or Medicare. For the remaining one-quarter of our clients who are uninsured or underinsured, Willow Oak offers a sliding scale fee based on the federal poverty guidelines for income and family size; the household income of approximately half of our clients is at or less than twice the federal poverty income levels.
