WAP's signature event takes place annually on a Sunday in late September as artists of all kind parade along the Wheaton triangle and gather at a day-long community festival in the town plaza. Throughout the year, WAP manages art pop-ups, community art workshops, and an art gallery. WAP has an annual poster contest with a cash prize for MoCo students. MCPS student volunteers help a non-profit arts organization bring the community together with free art activities. Students may have the opportunity to work alongside WAP artists conducting free public workshops and art pop-ups or in managing the WAP gallery that exhibits the work of 25 Montgomery County artists. At the annual parade and festival, student volunteers may assist with check-in and set up of the exhibits and assist participants getting ready at the parade staging area, assist stage managers at the two performance stages, and staff the information booth. In weeks leading up to the parade, students may have the opportunity to help artists run the workshops that create the community float or the yarn bomb.
