Who We Are

To enhance community pride by focusing on the contributions made by African Americans; To encourage community participation through training; To provide access to information; To facilitate communication between diverse groups; To empower county citizens with researching the history of their community; To provide ongoing programs, which support poor, distressed and under-served areas, and services, which strive to increase the quality of life for those citizens through shared community history, and; To organize webinars to focus on voter training, special outreach events, and To provide community service hours for those who need to give back to the community.

 

What We Do

Volunteers are asked to participate in community and organization special events by (1) understanding English and following directions, (2) participating onsite to setup or take down, (3) registering individuals and others attending the events, (4) taking photographs or videotaping the events, (5) assisting individuals with special needs and (6) agreeing to participate a minimum of two hours and no more than eight hours per day or event.

Volunteers are asked to participate by researching the internet, and websites, reading publications written by local African Americans and others, and interviewing individuals to document African American history in Montgomery County in real time. Attending various workshops and events to learn firsthand to understand the cultural experience of individuals.
