Who We Are

Since 1971, the mission of MYB has been to provide the highest caliber of training and performance opportunities to young dancers in order to prepare them for a career in the performing arts as well as to provide classes to dancers of all ages and levels in the community.

MYB’s children’s program puts deliberate emphasis on pre-professional achievement with each level carefully crafted to provide the most comprehensive training and coaching in order to produce the high quality dancer that MYB is known for.

MYB’s adult program, spanning levels from basic beginner through advanced, enjoys the same faculty as the children’s program, offering our adults the finest teachers of ballet, stretch, and classical core conditioning in the region.

MYB also provides the community with professional quality performances exposing the area to the art of ballet. In addition, MYB’s outreach program makes ballet available to the community’s under-served and disadvantaged children allowing all to experience the joy of dance.

What We Do

Student Helpers are a big part of Maryland Youth Ballet as they are essential to our Introductory (Intro I, II and III), Level 1, Level 2 and Music & Motion classes. Dancers 10 years old and up enrolled in Level 3 and higher are eligible to volunteer as Student Helpers in our lower level classes to keep the classes organized and to run smoothly.

Helpers may assist with the warm-up, demonstrate combinations at barre and centre, assist in putting students into lines for centre work, help keep order as the dancers go across the floor or escort young dancers to and from the restroom, etc. Helpers will learn the basics of classroom management and will observe firsthand how to teach dance to children ages 5-9 which includes students who are a part of our JumpStart outreach program.

Being a Student Helper is a (school) yearlong commitment. For Introductory Division, classes run from September until the week prior to Memorial Day weekend in May while Level 1 & 2 classes will run until the last day of our school year in June. Music & Motion, our program for students with physical disabilities, runs in two sessions: the fall is 10 weeks (Sep-Nov) and the spring 14 weeks (Jan-Apr).

For those students interested in helping in the Music & Motion classes, priority is given to those students in Levels 6-8; however, if you are at least 14 years old and interested in assisting, please contact us at info@marylandyouthballet.org

Dancers are also able to participate in performances for the community throughout the year. Our two main performance opportunities are the  Mini Nut and Nutcracker which occur in December, open to dancers in Levels 3-8, and the Spring Concert for Upper School dancers which is generally in April or May.

Adults who are part of the MYB community are also welcome to volunteer to help with performances and special events. Email info@marylandyouthballet.org for more information.
